The Irish Cello Book: Traditional Tunes & Techniques Book/Online Audio

Fabulous book with well known tunes in cello friendly keys. 2 CDs as well so great value

To be clear - this is an excellent book on the Cello and technique. However the kindle version is simply a poor quality scan of a PDF. I have seen pirated copies of books with better quality. I don't know who is responsible for this, Amazon or the publisher but you have done such a disservice to the author you should make this right by providing an optimised mobi version or remove it from sale.

I was skeptical at first. But Liz does a nice job of explaining techniques throughout the book. I’ve been playing bluegrass and Irish music for over 40 years (has it really been that long?) but I’m new to the cello. At first, I just transposed old fiddle tunes directly to the cello using the same fingering as the mandolin. While that changes the key the tune is still recognizable. Liz explains the technique in an easy way. It may be a while before I drag my cello to an Irish or Old Time Fiddle session but I’m looking forward to the chance.Thanks Liz and if you ever teach a class in San Francisco sign me up!Go raibh míle maith agat!

Love it! So many songs to choose from. There are laments, slow songs. Fast songs. Jigs. And very detailed explanations of music theory.

L'autrice ha trascritto un numero considerevole di brani irlandesi per violoncello. Molto interessanti le indicazioni sull'interpretazione, con diverse varianti di celebri interpreti popolari. Peccato che le partiture non comprendano indicazioni di diteggiatura o di arcata, lasciando un po' in difficoltà il violoncellista alle prime armi. Consigliato per chi intenda approfondire le tecniche interpretative della musica irlandese (in particolare gli abbellimenti, le variazioni ecc.).

I just received this book and am quite impressed. Full of great jigs, reels, hornpipes and more. Also history, technique, ornamentation and audio tracks. Speaking of which, I was confused because I read that CDs would be included. I emailed the author Liz and she got back to me right away. The audio tracks can be downloaded from halleonard.com. Go to the title page (first page after the cover) and it gives you the web link and code to access all of the tracks. Great for playing along! Learn, practice and most importantly have fun and enjoy this wonderful music!
