Disappointed. I must have read the description wrong
Disappointed. I must have read the description wrong. I thought it would tell me in more detail how to make the fermented and cultured foods. Very few pages spent on that. Book is collection of recipes using your fermented foods. So you make your fermented food on your own then go to this book to make something else with them. I just eat the foods I make as they are. Kefir is kefir. I don't need to make something else with it. I just want to drink it. So just know what you are getting - it might be exactly what you want.

The Best Cookbook Ever!
I've suffered from serious stomach problems since I was a child so discovering fermented foods has been a life-changing experience for me. I've made at least a third of the recipes in this book in the last three months and every recipe has been great! The "Earth and Sunshine Dip" is made from peas and kefir cheese as its base with a magic combination of herbs and veggies added and my family can't get enough of it! It tastes fantastic! The "Raw Kefir Pumpkin Pie" recipe is amazingly like a a combination of pumpkin pie and cheesecake and the "Overnight Kefir Brownie Pudding" is to die for! The "Kefir Eggs With a Side of Veggies" has turned my daughter into an egg eater for the first time in her life. She called me this week to tell me that she made it at home with goat kefir and goat cheese. Honestly, every recipe I've tried so far is a keeper and I'm just getting started on making kombucha at home, so I'm sure I'm going to love those recipes as well. I've purchased several fermented foods cookbooks, but I can already tell that Donna's are going to be my absolute favorites! She's opened up a new world of healthful and pain-free living for me. I'm so grateful.

Great information
Great information. I've been making and eating cultured foods from Donna Schwenk's book Cultured Food for Life book for a few years. This book goes into a more detail on how cultured foods benefit the body and has more recipes to try. I haven't been disappointed yet with any recipes I have tried.Since finding Donna and cultured foods, I have become healthier.

What does it mean to eat healthy? How many naturally occurring probiotics do you consume?
Probiotics from your kitchen an not an expensive bottle of supplements? Where have I been all the year's Donna Schwenk has been culturing her own food and reaping the benefits of naturally occurring probiotic enzymes? Probiotic enzymes that keep our gut flora in proper balance, naturally. Necessary for proper digestion and absorption of nutrients from our food.People for centuries have been preserving their foods this way before refrigeration. With modern inventions, we've been killing these natural occurring enzymes with high heat. Who knew? I thank God, and am thankful to Donna for sharing with us. Now we can all benefit from these old ways. She has perfected her family tested recipes over the years and has shared them with us.. Jump in, it's pretty simple stuff. Thanks Donna!

A book that combines science and creativity
This is a book that combines science and creativity: you are first introduced to a lot of education on human microbes, scientific support on how fermented foods support health, and the importance of both probiotics and prebiotics; then, there is a myriad of recipes you can follow from basics to more creative ones. The book is filled with valuable information that opens my eyes to opportunities that fermented foods can bring me to improve the my health and the health of my family. What I love is that this book has a nice mix of science, anecdotal stories from Donna's readers, and her personal and family stories. From both scientific and experiential perspectives, they give me a more holistic view on the healing power behind fermented foods at different angles. I also like the tone of the book, which makes me feel that I was hearing Donna talking to myself as I was reading the book.Overall, it's a wise investment for your health!

Life saver!
I'm a huge fan of Donna! I bought kefir grains and a kombucha kit from her. My family has been using her tips and foods to get healthy. I was sick with one cold after the next, and my family easily passed germs around. Until we started drinking kefir, that is. We've been the healthiest versions of ourselves ever! My son had seizures from a gluten sensitivity years ago. He accidentally got glutened a few days ago (mistook a flour tortilla for corn). Instead of a seizure, migraine, or the usually out of control feeling and irritability - he was fine. My father had been sick in the hospital for months when I heard of kefir and Donna. He was on many antibiotics. He had gotten pneumonia, infections, c diff, and even MRSA. I knew his immune system needed help, but I didn't know how. I started to force him to drink kefir as soon as he was able to eat. Wouldn't you know it...he started turning the corner. God nudged us to this. It's been an important part of my life, and I tell everyone about donna and her books!

This book is life changing!
I highly recommend this book! Cultured Food for Health is full of information on how to heal your gut and how to start making your own fermented foods. Donna generously shares her knowledge and passion for fermenting foods and tells the story of her own journey to find healing through these foods. I am now fermenting my own foods and feeling the best I've felt in a long time!

Of you can, check it out from the library before you buy to see if it's for you.
I enjoy the author's YouTube videos and her informational sections are great for beginners, but I think if I could, I would check this out from the library instead of purchasing. I've come to prefer cookbooks with glossy pages (to withstand the hazards of kitchen life) and pretty pictures (I'm a visual learner), but I don't judge it solely on those qualities. I feel like I will only use a small number of the recipes included as many just weren't appealing.

Great book, easy to read and follow the recipes
Great book, easy to read and follow the recipes. Good also for troubleshooting when you're not sure if your fermenting is going to plan as she gives lots of hints and tips. All the fermenting I have done using Donna's recipes have produced really good results. Makes culturing in your kitchen easy and fun
