Repair Door cable system on a KitchenAid dishwasher
Well today I repaired our KitchenAid dishwasher. The door would fall down with a lot of force when you opened it and hit you in the leg. There is a cable and pulley system on each side that is supposed to allow the door to stay open to any level you want it to and open it in a controlled manner. It turned out here that one cable was broken and both sets of pulleys were bent and not functioning well.I watched an on line video of how to repair it. Somethings were not quite the same but close. Some harder some easier.I think if someone were accustomed to doing this, it would have taken perhaps 60 minutes or a little longer. A novice like me, it took about 3 1/2 hours. Counting time to figure out which circuit breaker was for the dishwasher. But I did not want to allow a repair person into the house during this time of COVID-19 so I did it myself.Appears to work well, now.

Perfect replacement - Kenmore dishwasher door balance
Great to find a cost effective repair to keep the heavy dishwasher door from slamming open. Easy to install, good instructional videos on YouTube. One kit does both sides of the door counterbalance system. Unclear if there replacement kit is of any higher quality than the original, but it was a direct replacement.

Incredibly noisy, lasted 6 weeks
We replaced one side on my dishwasher with this replacement part (as the other side was fine, still original part) and we immediately notice that this replacement part produced a very load squeaky sound. Now six weeks after we installed it the part broke.

Maytag Dishwasher repairs
When Door Switch failed on my Maytag dishwasher, It was recommended to replace these as well since they are both part of door functionality. Seemed to make sense so I went ahead and replaced them as suggested. Works Great.

Worked great on my KitchenAid!
Just what I needed! This is probably a better design than the OEM part. Simple and effective solution. Worked great for my KitchenAid dishwasher when one side of the original part broke where the plastic connects the pull rope to the bottom of the dishwasher door. Turn off your power at the breaker, turn off your water supply, pop 2 screws out from under the cabinet and a few more from under the front of the dishwasher and you are ready to pull the machine straight out. You may have to disconnect the water supply line and or power connection to get enough room to pull the machine out far enough. (Again turn off the POWER and the water supply FIRST.) Swap out your parts and reverse the process. If you are a handy fella or gal, this whole process should take you about a half hour or so. If you aren't comfortable with basic plumbing or electrical; call a pro or bake some brownies for the neighbor with the big tool box in their garage. 😉

2.5 stars : it kinda works
I would rate this product 2.5 stars. For starters, the long hook ends of the rope are not the straight version that the description promises, but the angled version found in other Amazon listings. That said, I found an orientation of the angled hook end that looks like it will work well.Next up, as noted in other reviews, the included pulleys are HORRENDLOUSLY NOISY. I even tried some lubrication between the pulleys and backing plate but that didn't help. So I used the new backing plates (old ones were a little bent/broken), along with the old pulleys. Result : NO NOISE.TL;DR : cables don't match description, but seem like they'll be okay. Don't use the included pulleys, use your old ones, but you can use the new pulley backing plates.

Good stuff for 50% less than oem
Appears to be well made and fit my Kitchenaid dishwasher well.

Works well
Product was a quarter-inch shorter than the cord it replaced so you can hear the spring groaning when stretched. The angled connector can also interfere with the pulley because the bracket on the dishwasher itself is thin mild steel. Bit of fiddling got the job done.

Worked Perfectly
Had to disconnect and pull the dishwasher out to access the door lift mechanism but installation was easy after that. In my case it just required replacing the broken cord.

Solved the problem
Kinda expensive for a few pieces of plastic, but couldn’t find it cheaper anywhere else. Watched YouTube video to install.

Noisy - try applying Vaseline
We installed this for our Kenmore dishwasher model 665.13789K602. Installation is quick if you know what to do. You need to remove the top screws under the cabinet/counter, then the bottom front plate, and then pull out the dishwasher by tugging at the door while it’s open. Then to install the kit just take photos of how the original set was already installed on the dishwasher to understand how it is attached, and then replace it.The problem with this kit is that the wheel mechanism is very noisy when you open the door, when the string slides through the tracks. We did try applying some Vaseline to the wheel tracks but that only helped half of the noise to go away. If you have the same problem it might work for you. We also tried using a spare string from a previous working kit (Whirlpool OEM) but that didn’t help the noise go away either. In the end we found we already had a wheel mechanism from a previous kit (Whirlpool brand, no longer sold by Amazon) which we hadn’t used on one side of the dishwasher yet. So we used that one and will plan on returning this BlueStars one.
