Healing Oils of Ancient Scripture

Light on Science and Theology
While as a Christian theologian, I admire Ms Totilo's messianic faith, her book betrays a rather shallow knowledge of both theology and science. She makes some rather startling claims about the three main classes of chemicals found in essential oils, which claims are unsubstantiated in the book. She also fails to identify some of her plant oils according to botanical names. If she had done so, she would have realized that Sandalwood (Sandalia spp.) and Aloeswood/Agarwood (Aquilaria spp.) are two very different species from different plant genera. This continues an error promulgated by one of her main sources, David Stewart. Further, she falls into some common theological errors. For instance, Hyssop (Hyssopus officianalis) did not grow in Palestine or Egypt during biblical times. If it can be grown there now, it has been imported in modern times. Therefore, the Hebrew word "esob" does not refer to what the KJV translators translated "Hyssop" but more likely to a species of Oregano. In another instance, Totlilo correctly indicates that the Old Testament usage "aloes" refers to Agarwood or its essential oil extract. However, she goes on to indicate with certainty that the New Testament usage of the word "Aloes" is the same plant when the New Testament usage is more likely to have been Aloe vera. At least, in the New Testament usage, there is considerable doubt whether the plant in question would have been Agarwood/Aloeswood/Oud (Aquilaria spp.). If one looks at the sources end-noted in Totilo's book, they are few and not very authoritative.

Enjoy reading this book.
I like this book as it gives information about 12 of the oils used in ancient and present times. It references the Bible both Genesis and Revelations, as well as, some books in between about the specific purposes oils were used. This is a quick and easy read. You'll be reminded of things you've read before, but now can have understanding of, and learn new things you've not been taught before.

Good Reference Book
This book is a good reference to have for any person, who: is interested to learn about biblical oils; to understand the proper purpose of the anointing oils and how to apply these oils; and to know the exact name of anointing oils; and to know the original purpose or application of biblical oils, based on the text from the bible verses/scriptures. This book provides a good list and direct definition of the anointing oils, that is helpful to use in rituals.

FABULOUS
My friend and I have been doing research on essential oils and mainly felt Yahweh was wanting us to be involved with the 12 ancient oils of scripture. We had read another book in regard to the essential oils of the bible but didn't think we were supposed to become involved with all the oils. Then I found this book and this is exactly what YAHWEH was talking about. Rebecca is a Messianic believer it seems (as we are) and had the same leading 5 or so years ago and wrote this book. Loved her approach and information!

Healing Oils of Ancient Scripture
This is like a mini-version of Heal with Oil. So if you want very condensed info and fewer oils, this is a great little book. The info is great!
