I did. Microwave it for about 30 seconds, pour off liquid, then keep going 10 seconds at a time, pouring off liquid each time until it all comes out. Or you can melt it down... slowly... and let it reform and start again. They do make refill gel for it

Our lid did not snap on. Just sets on top of the opening.
