and it still remains one of my favorite books ever
I first read this back in 1982, having bought it from my uncle for 50 cents, and it still remains one of my favorite books ever. First published in the 1950's this book is a collection of scary, funny, and 'true' stories, as well as a few poems and supposedly useful facts about ghost (such as how to summon them or avoid them altogether). Clearly aimed at kids, some of the stories can be a little 'jarring' at times, depending on the kid, I guess, so parents, be advised. But unless your kid is a total wimp they should be fine. Full of evocative charcoal illustrations (especially of the kid who stabbed a knife into his coat on top of a grave) and stories that are short but to the point this reprint is a no-brainer for Halloween, unless you want to pay top dollar for an older copy; even copies of the 1980's paperback I have can cost you plenty. Buy it. You won't regret it.

A Must Have Book For Your Spooky Story Collection!
Awesome old fashioned ghost stories that still put a scare into you! I still have my original hardback copy. So glad it was released in paperback with the SAME illustrations for a new generation of children to enjoy!

I love this book as a kid and remember being freaked out by some of the stories. I wanted to share these stories with my boys who are about the same age I was when I first discovered them. It brought back some great memories; so glad I was able to find this book on here.

A great, spooky read for older children
Cute stories, but would recommend for kids ages 9 and up. All the stories are good, but some contain blood and violence that little ones my not respond well to.

A fun ghost story book!
When I was in grade school, this one scared the heck out of me. I got a copy a few years ago and found it pleasantly spooky fun. Maria Leach is an ace at retelling old folk stories and the ones about ghosts are entertaining indeed.
