Vintage Vibe: Traditional Quilts, Fresh Fabrics

First time author Amber Johnson does a wonderful job of creating vintage patterns with a modern look. Fourteen patterns, are beautifully styled and photographed in Vintage Vibe, and have easy to follow directions and diagrams. It perfectly captures and combines Amber’s upbeat style with inspirations from her teacher and grandmother. For example, Pretty Petals, a Dresden Plate design, uses a textured, solid fabric in the center, highlighting the surrounding printed fabrics.Sample blocks of Scrap Jars, were fast, easy and fun to make. I have to admit, I fell in love with this original, scrappy pattern immediately. Others have a unique twist to them, such as Playing Favorites; a great spin on the basic Churn Dash block.There is useful front matter, including a discussion about choosing fabrics, pre-cuts, care, etc. Back matter includes a useful guide to quiltmaking basics that are helpful for any quilter. A lovely addition with each pattern is a short inspiration or item of interest from Amber. Well done!!

I looked so forward to receiving this new book, and I was not disappointed. The patterns are fresh and new , and I really enjoyed the fabrics Ms. Johnson used. I have been making quilts for over 50 years and was a little bored with what I was doing. This book is a breath of fresh air and got me excited about quilting again.

I only needed one pattern but did find other patterns that I liked!
