Sun Warrior: Tales of a New World

Good - some things I didn’t like
Cast is an experienced writer, and obviously naturally talented. Although, it isn’t exactly the writing in this novel and the first that are amazing, it is the world, the ideas and the romance.I’m giving this book five stars because my friend and I LOVED it and Moon Chosen, but there are some things I didn’t like; Spoilers ahead.1. Cast’s writing style is all-inclusive. There doesn’t seem to be any “cuts” made, like nothing was ever left out. This bugged me at some points, because when two characters asked the same question, we would hear the same explanation again and again. Also, sometimes things get overly descriptive when it doesn’t need to be. The book seems very surface level (at most points anyway) because there isn’t much internal dialogue in any of the characters, of even dialogue by the narrator. Everything is described very coldly, like a scientist is describing a specimen, well, everything except the magic; but even the magic, although original, feels cookie-cutter.2. Nearly every male character in this book is stupid. Thaddeus, Dead-Eye, Nik, David etc. I don’t know why, they just felt slow to me. Nik, for instance, can’t seem to decide if he wants to be a gentle, loving man to Mari or a manipulative one. Not to mention Mari is... inexperienced when it comes to intimate things. She’s literally stayed alone with her mother her entire life before now (and some may call that abusisve even though she was just trying to protect her), and it made her naive. But back to Nik, in every scene where Mari isn’t there, I like him as a character, but when she IS, he turns into this blind follower, trusting everything she says and never calling her on her BS. In fact, ALL the male characters do this except the cat-guy who is now my favorite, because he actually FEELS like a character and not an extra.3. Thirdly, the plot....Where the hell is it going? Seriously, they obviously need to run from the Sun Tribe (who are now evil? For some reason? Because of Thaddeus? One guy? Really?) anyways, it all works out because the REAL bad guys are on their way to the tribe to... like attack it and eat all the people or something because they’re cannibals... anyway so all our good guys have to escape, right? So they get everything together and they’re about to leave when- Nik decides he has to go steal some weird ferns or something because their future children won’t have sun power without them. Now, this is where things got sketchy for me. He’s still hurt from an incident in the first book, and there are many men (and women) in Mari’s tribe who totally could’ve gone and stolen the weird ferns instead, in fact, why not send a bunch of people so in case they get attacked, they can fight back? Whatever, Nik goes anyway. Alone. Yeah, guess what happens, he gets caught. And by the man who wants him dead eight times over. So they tie him to a tree and shoot him with arrows until his knight in shinning armor comes to save him, Mari - and also, she isn’t wearing a shirt, or a bra. I have no idea why she decided to not wear a shirt or a bra. I have no idea why the author would make her half-naked like that, but she was wearing sweatpants though, so it’s ok.Anyways, she heals everyone in the Tribe and then takes Nik, but of course they chase them anyway, but they somehow get away just as the cannibals arrive (this is petty but, wasn’t Nik hurt to begin with? They were just torturing him and he’s running?) I wouldn’t be running. I’d be on the ground, and on top of that; Nik’s weapon of choice is a crossbow, and I’m pretty sure a weapon like that requires a working shoulder. So, where is the plot going? It just feels like Cast is making it up as she goes along, because we’ve never heard about the wind riders before now, in fact, there are a lot of things we haven’t heard about. Then there’s dead eye and Dove, I’m not going to talk about them because if I start, I won’t stop, and this review is long enough.

An incredible series, but...
First, I want to state that this is in FULL support of PC Cast... This is an email that I recently sent to Ms Enderline at Macmillan Publishing:I started reading a series by PC Cast when it first came out and fell in love with the harsh world she created. The series is Tales of a New World. I eagerly awaited each new volume, purchasing them as soon as they were released. The story was to be completed in volume four. I waited and waited, yet nothing was forthcoming. Yesterday, I finally did a search only to discover that MacMillan has no intention of contracting for the fourth volume??? These books were on the NYT BESTSELLERS list for 5 or 6 months each. I can't believe a publishing company of your stature is going to leave readers hanging, not knowing what is to become of these beloved characters. And now I'm feeling guilty because I recommended the books to others (something I seldom do), including some new younger readers... I love to get young adults hooked on books... only to have to tell them you refuse to contract for the final installment. Believe me when I say, I WILL be posting this news to Goodreads and any other review site, recommending that people not even bother to begin the story since it has no conclusion. PC Cast is an incredible author who tells a concise engaging story that ropes in her audience. Shame on you for letting readers down. I will certainly no longer be purchasing books from your company since you don't support your writers in their pursuits.I ask that others please do so as well in support of Ms. Cast and other writers who might find themselves in a similar position. I was aghast to find a company of some repute denying the completion of a well loved series!

Excellent read
I was so happy I bought this book, but imagine my dismay when I discovered it was the second in a series! I have since bought one and three, and am eagerly awaiting four. Excellent story, very good details on the new world, good relationship evolution, and thank goodness, no page after page of sex. An excellent book, and I intend to look for more by this author.

Did not disappoint!
The 2nd book in the series and it did not disappoint. As soon I got it I read the entire thing and afterward I was anxiously anticipating the third installment - which comes out next October, by the way. I don't want to give any spoilers, so I will just say that I like how the characters stories are being built upon and your learning more about them and the story is really starting to unfold. You see that there is more to the world than just the 3 groups from the beginning and the lynx/human assassin combo. This is a must read

The story line is amazing and will have you on edge
I've been a fan of. P.C. Cast since her house of night series, I picked up the moon choose book thinking it to be a continue on the Vampire side buy I was surprised and feel in love with it to the point I could not wait to get my hands on a copy of sun warrior and now wind runner when it comes out. I was so in-depth with reading I had brought it to work it helped me on the dead days I am just said I read through it in 2 days DX.

Completely and utterly amazing!!!!
I adored the first book in this series and i have been a huge fan of this author's work for a long time! The first book of this series was the best book I read last year so I truly thought that it was impossible for me to live the next book even more but I can say that I was wrong and can predict that this book will be the best one I read this year (unless the 3rd book comes out this year!).I was totally addicted to this book and I couldn't stop reading it! It is so amazing that you find yourself so immersed into this world that you really don't want to leave it! This author is so talented in her ability to create such unique worlds that fill your imagination as a reader, she is able to create these worlds in such vivid detail that you can see it all so clearly. I also love her ability to create characters that are so realistic that you can relate to them on some level making them real in your own mind so you understand their motivations, their fears and their wants.Mari has really changed and evolved since the beginning of the first book and it is a joy to watch her come into her own and yo just be herself and be loved by everyone for being who she really is. I also loved watching her relationship with Nik bloom, watching them grow together. There are so many characters that I loved reading about but the ones I must mention are Bast and Antreas, his relationship with Bast is fun to read about and is completely different to the other companions, I loved reading about his history and they both really intrigue me, I can't wait to learn more about him.I am so excited for the 3rd book in this series to be released and can't wait to meet the Wind Riders! This is the most amazing book by the most amazing author and I can't recommend this book highly enough!!! This is a book that follows on from the first one so readers really need to read that one to fully understand what is happening. This is a must read book that is a major page Turner!!!
