PKM-FLC Maxi-Mandrel #2 Morse Taper,Silver

After using this mandrel for several pens I noticed that the wood stuck out further on one side of the pen tip and middle hardware. I am a beginner so I thought this was my inexperience, but after some research I learned that this is due to the shaft being bent and when I ran the lathe on a low RPM I could see the wobble. of my pens have come out this way so it was either like that when I bought it, or it bent the fist time I used it. Either case the mandrel should not be bent new or bend easily. I could have gotten the bad apple, but I would not buy again.

it is quick and easy and allows infinite adjustment of the rod. This creates a shorter turning rod when working with smaller piece like pens.I much prefer it over the mandrel that screws into the headstock.

This is probably a great product for someone just getting into pen turning because the mandrel head will not fully lock out when tightened all the way. This causes the axle to turn in the mandrel head when to much pressure is put on it from carving. however this is a huge annoyance for those seasoned turners that turn at a higher rate of speed and pressure. I would recommend this for a beginner but not for a seasoned turner.

Worked ok for about 8 pens then shaft broke off.

I have turned good amount of pens on this and it works great. Will buy again.

I love that I can adjust the length of the mandrel. I was using a cheaper pen mendral, but I switched to this right away and I wish I never bought the other one!

I've taken to mounting this in my drill chuck as it seems to be better balanced, but other than that, absolutely no complaints.
