Indirectly Influenced By My Current Job
I admit that indirect inspiration from my current job influenced me to obtain this kindlebook that is Deliciously Ella; The Plant Based Cookbook; 100 Simple Vegan Recipes To Make Everyday Delicious by Ella Mills Woodward. I admit that I am far from being a vegan or even any kind of vegetarian which puts me in a category different from this kindlebook’s intended audience. However, I found the author’s (Ella Mills (Woodward) story heartwarming in terms of why she got more into eating a plant based diet and other details that include how she met husband. Recipes that are included in this kindlebook; creamy cauliflower and chickpea salad, rainbow salad, spiced peanut sweet potatoes, olive and sun dried tomato quinoa, sweet potato cakes and more.

I have to do conversions to US measurements
Yikes, I didn't pay enough attention so I have to convert grams to oz, which I can do easily with my scale, but converting the ml to cups will be a little more challenging so I will have to use my phone or computer to convert each item with ml. I find there are too many pages that have discussion in them about Ella instead of recipes. This is a cookbook and if I wanted to learn so much more about Ella and her team, I would go to her website. So I am a bit disappointed there are not more recipes for this book, although there are 100.One big plus are the pictures of the food and there are only a few items I am not familiar with. When I actually try the recipes, I will add more to this review.

deliciously all the way
Love the book. the recipes are easy to follow and very tasty, you can cook in bulk in freeze it or eat it right away the taste won't change. I have been following deliciously ella for over a year now and in this book (and of course videos, instagram, etc) you can really see the effort behind it all. Can't wait for the next book.

Unfortunately I have to convert all of the measurements to work in the US
The recipes look great, however the measurements are metric. I have to convert everything to American measurements in order to make them.

I watch Ella on youtube and i just love watching her cook this delicious looking food. I was so excited for the book and i was pleased to finally buy it. It’s a beautifully made cookbook and the pictures are mouthwatering. I love that shehas not only all plant based but a majority of gluten free options. I haven’t even cooked any if the recipes yet i just look at the book lol

Not so delicious, but there’s still hope...
I don’t know if it’s because the measurements are metric (I do use a scale when I cook with these recipes so I can’t imagine it’s that), if the ingredients in the USA taste differently than UK, or if I’m doing something very wrong when cooking them, but I’ve made 4 recipes from here and they’ve been mediocre at best. One of the bigger flops were the corn fritters...I hate wasting food but they were barely edible. Disappointing since all the recipes sound so great and photograph beautifully. Not totally giving up on this book but I definitely wouldn’t use a recipe for entertaining from here until I’ve made it successfully one or two times before.

Best plant based cook book ever!
Obsessed with this cook book. It's beautiful and so easy to follow. The only downside is that it doesn't give you the cooking time? In general, love it, the dishes are so tasty you wouldn't even realize you are eating vegan. Would definitely recommend and is a very good starter to vegan diet because the dishes are not too extreme, a lot of them are actually quite heavy!

I wanted to love it
I really wanted to love this book. Before writing a review, I wanted to make sure I had tried enough recipes to give a fair opinion, so below is what I've tried and tested:Miso aubergine and courgette- the book states to cook the aubergines at 220 degrees. I thought this seemed high so it's probably my fault. Alas, the aubergines burnt to a crisp halfway through the cooking time. Every oven is different so I'd try this again on a lower heat. This annoyed me as I just the whole jar of Miso which was expensive.Green Thai curry- sooo bland. Considering the flavours that went into the paste, it was awful. I would try this again, but use only one coconut milk rather than 2 tins, as that's all I could taste.Courgette, aubergine and pesto salad- this one confused me. It instructs you to preheat the oven, griddle the aubergines...then no instructions relating to if anything goes in the oven? I thought maybe the oven was to toast the almonds, but in her little blurb, she talks about roasting the veg. So confused about that one, I ended up just cooking it all in the grill and it was very tasty. Loved the pesto with almonds.Whole cauliflower- again, this took 45 minutes less to cook than what Ella suggested in the book, but she did say it would depend on the size of the cauli (although my cauli was xxl). It was okay, I would do it again but would rather cut it into steaks first so that the seasoning covers the entire cauli and not just the outside edges.Roasted new potatoes with coconut yoghurt- AMAZING. I will never cook potatoes any differently again!!! The book is worth buying just for this simple but incredible recipe.Sweet potato falafels- thought they were okay, my partner loved them.Granola- amazing, substituted the raisins for dried cranberries and it's delicious. I eat with oat milk.Fudgy chocolate brownies- the recipe requires 330g coconut sugar. 330G!!!!!! 100g of coconut sugar is 385 calories. That is over 1000 calories on the sugar alone! I used 100g of coconut sugar and also cut down on the coconut oil (I used 90g instead of 130g), and they turned out really nice. One other issue I've found is that the ingredients are expensive, e.g. in the granola, once you've bought the vanilla pod and all the seeds, you've spent £7-8 just for a week's worth of granola. For all the above recipes ingredients, my online shop came to £62.Sooo I did try a few things and had mixed opinions. I would definitely give most of them another go, tweaking them to my own taste and oven temperature, as well as trying out other recipes in the book. This is my least favourite of her cookbooks so far, but saying that I did love reading her story in between chapters.

Delicious and inspiring - a beautiful cook book for anyone wanting to up their veg intake.
I was waiting excitedly for this new Deliciously Ella book to be released and it has not disappointed. I have been blown away by the recipes and am so excited about all the things that I can cook from it. Every recipe has a photo and it is divided into really handy sections -Breakfast, Salads, Falafel,Burger and Dips etc.I am not vegan, or even vegetarian, but I love food and cooking, and, like many people, I have become increasingly interested in incorporating more plant based meals into my daily life and that of my family. We now eat vegan food at least a couple of times a week, but what is fantastic is that these recipes can also sit really easily alongside meat or dairy, if you so choose. The salads and spiced peanut sweet potatoes seem particularly adaptable to sit alongside grilled chicken or halloumi.I love the way that Ella uses layers and combinations of dishes in her recipes, so a meal could be a few dishes put together giving taste and texture variation. For example, last night we had the Rainbow Salad with the Smoky Aubergine Dip on the side. I cannot express how truly delicious this was! None of the dip was left at all (the bowl scraped clean) and a small amount of the salad went in the fridge, which I am looking forward to for lunch today! Also, it was so easy to put together. I had baked the aubergine earlier in the day, but everything else I did in around half an hour before eating. It was just a question of making sure that I had all of the lovely fresh ingredients in the house.Having dips on the side is a revelation for me! I'm looking forward to trying the Creamy Artichoke and Edameme Dip soon and the Sri Lankan Curry tonight!Over all I think this book is fantastic, particularly if you want to increase you veg intake. It has enlightened me as to the variations possible in vegan/plant based cooking. I previously thought of nut roasts and boring, dreary dishes. Deliciously Ella has set me straight. I think my family will be much healthier with this book in our lives (Ella states that just 27% of the UK population is eating their five-a-day and I totally agree that we need to make fruit and veg seem delicious, exciting and easy). Even my children are eating more veg thanks to this book and other of Ella's recipes.I am not totally sure about the sweet stuff, as I am not vegan, I'm not sure that I will try baking without eggs and butter, but never say never! I really do like the look of her Mango and Coconut Flapjacks though, as they have so much less sugar in them and I think my children will like them.I have one other of Deliciously Ella's books, which I have used a fair amount and enjoyed, but this seems like it must be her best yet. I very rarely write reviews, so the fact that I have chosn to today I think speaks volumes. Basically I would highly recommend this book!

Overall a good cookbook
My wife has an auto-immune disorder that she keeps under control largely through diet and Deliciously Ella has been a huge resource and inspiration for her over the past few years. She was so excited about this new cookbook and so I bought it for her as a surprise. To start with, the cookbook design is lovely -- there are big glossy images for every recipe and the pages are colour coded for each section making it quite easy to flip through. While not of particular interest to me, my wife did enjoy the journal entries at the beginning of each chapter and the ability to learn more about Ella's journey, particularly the trials and tribulations. As we run our own bakery and cafe, it was heartening to know that someone as successful as Ella has challenges just like everyone else. It made her story all the more inspiring.I like that there is a wide spectrum of recipes and that most are fairly simple and inexpensive to throw together quickly. There are some that certainly require a little more planning and would be suitable for a fancy dinner as well. It seems a good range. As to the recipes themselves, we have only made a few so perhaps our impression will change as we go on and if so we will certainly update the review. The salads have been delicious, but often the photos depict ingredients that are not listed in the recipe itself, which is a little confusing. The Spicy Miso Aubergine salad has cucumbers pictured -- not listed in the ingredients or recipe intro. The turmeric spiced cauliflower salad has what looks like caramelized onions or leeks in the photo (which would have been a really nice addition actually) -- again not listed in the ingredients. It's a little thing, but the kind of thing that annoys me when I am comparing my finished product to the photo and thinking that something is missing. The one area we have often been left down in past Deliciously Ella cookbooks is the baked goods. In her earliest cookbooks, they are stodgy and (in my opinion) barely edible. I have been enjoying some of her more recent recipes on her blog and app, however, so felt hopeful about the baking options in this new cookbook. The first thing that my wife noted was that many of the recipes in this book are extremely high in sugar. Yes it is usually maple syrup or coconut sugar, but in many recipes the amount of sugar is actually higher than you might see in a more traditional baking recipe (400 or more grams for a cake for instance). Also, many of the cakes and things call for up to two cups of maple syrup. That makes for not only very sugary baking, but also very expensive baking as well. All in all, it doesn't seem necessary to use that much sugar and still make a great tasting cake. The descriptions in the baking recipes can also be a little unclear. Many times the recipe calls for one to "pour the batter" into a pan when the batter is actually quite dry and solid. I am being nit-picky but this can definitely give you pause and make you think perhaps you went wrong somewhere. I like it when recipes tell me what my mixture should look like.Perhaps I have just had bad luck (though I am doubtful as I am a baker by trade), but thus far the brownies and two of the muffin recipes have come out quite close textured and dry. They have lovely flavors, but you will want to have a good mug of tea on hand to get them down. I noticed that almost all of the baking recipes require a quite high oven temp (200 degrees C) which perhaps is due to the plant based nature of the recipes. I have never in my life baked a muffin at that temperature before and pulled the blueberry muffins a good 10 minutes before time or else they would have been burnt to cinders. The banana bread was better but basically would fall apart in my hand it was so soft. I do see a lot of positive reviews of the baking recipes here so again, maybe I am just having bad luck here or maybe my standards are too high. All in all, I think this is an inspiring cookbook with lots of recipes I look forward to trying. However, I don't think I will be using it very often for baking.

Decent but whimsical. Don't bother unless you have other vegan cookbooks.
A lot of the meals in this book are great. Some are hopelessly bland. Some have about as many calories as an apple without the pleasure of it’s sweetness, but there we go. My favourite is the “hearty” stew that’s perfect for winter (I won’t name names) which primarily contains celery, kale, carrots and a small dose of lentils and potatoes, amongst other ingredients. It ended up bland, boring, unfulfilling and I ended up cooking up something with more than a dozen calories per gallon just so I didn’t die of starvation.Unfortunately that pretty much sums up this cookbook. Great recipes, but not enough to live off of. Time consuming? Yes. I wish I could spend an hour or more making breakfast. If you could live Ella’s life it would be perfect and I’m sure you’d feel amazing, but for the common man like me it’s completely impractical and actually probably unhealthy. I mean, seriously, there’s more recipes for falafels then curries. On that note, a lot of the recipes are half meals and need to be combined with other recipes in the book to actual make a decent meal – which seems like cheating and a way to boost your recipe count without actually recommending meals. To summarize: It’s a nice book to use every now and again, but it should come about tenth in your list of vegan cookbooks to buy. Whimsical is one word to describe it, and that is pretty much the perfect word to describe it.

Not impressed
I've been vegetarian for a long time and have recently switched to being vegan, so thought I'd get a few cookbooks for some ideas. To say I am underwhelmed with this would be a massive understatement. Its weighty and from the outside it looks to promise lots of delicious recipes. However, a large proportion of the book is taken up with an introduction and various diary entries. Its just too much, by all means introduce your new book but we dont need your whole life story do we??Recipes are ok, nothing jumps out as being particularly inspiring. If I had paid the full publishing price for this I would have been really annoyed. Think this will be heading to the charity shop.
