Fast excellent read that serves as a reminder of what we should be doing.
I just picked up "The Sam Walton Way: 50 of Mr. Sam's Best Leadership Practices" and I want to recommend this short read by Michael Bergdahl. When I took the Walton Institute of Retailing class, I saw that he is one of the suggested authors for further study. However, I've also gotten to know him through LinkedIn and was impressed at the way leveraged not only his Walmart experience, but the experiences of current leaders and associates from his "Sam Walton's Best Practices" group to create a new, to the point, fresh take on Mr. Sam's leadership practices. If you don't have a lot of time to read I'd still suggest picking this up, it breaks the best practices down into a "What Would Sam Do" format. Section one almost looks like a blueprint for our current stated focus: bench strength, accountability, empowerment, budget, focus. The "Focus" best practice reminds us to have one shared agenda: the customer. I think this is a book I'll keep around especially if I start to drag and need a "pep talk".

Inspirational Leadership Practices
This book is for anyone that wants to understand quickly how to implement key points that focus on the recommendations of Sam Walton when it came to business. It is setup in such a way that this is a useful teaching tool. Michael's book describes key points of leadership practices that are highlighted and briefly discussed with quotes from the late Sam Walton. Each of these steps serve as a reminder and I feel would be beneficial for discussion at orientation or daily morning meetings. In addition to book, Michael has truly instilled his trademark book within the LinkedIn environment, utilizing the topics for discussion. The Sam Walton, "50 of Mr. Sam's Best Leadership Practices" is truly an inspirational of best practices for any business leader to follow. Michael truly demonstrates his understanding of the Walmart culture and best practices as a well-known author and international speaker.

A Good Reinforcement
This book is a very quick and easy read. It serves as a motivational tool and solid reinforcement. The reason I say reinforcement is mainly because I have read other Sam Walton books by this author and I found that he was more detailed and thorough in his other works. This book is more of a summary and abridged version. It also includes many quotes from Sam Walton's autobiography Made in America. While this book is very organized and brief, I found that it really summarizes parts of his other books as well as Sam Walton's book. Therefore, I highly recommend this book as a recap and abridged book on Sam Walton. You will definitely enjoy and should be able to finish it in a very short time.

Great pointers and a quick read.I was a little disappointed by the price point of the book, since it felt like a really good news article and not a book.

Excellent Resource for Walmart Associates
"The Sam Walton Way" is a great source of information for Walmart associates and provides excellent go-to material for the big question that comes to mind; WWSD? What would Sam do? On the anniversary of Walmart's 50th birthday, Michael Bergdahl has once again created another book that reminds the reader of the hard work and dedication that is contributed from Walmart associates behind the scenes. The book conveniently outlines Sam's best practices and highlights each one with wonderful quotes and stories from Sam Walton and helps the reader relate their own experiences with Sam's throughout the book. A must have tool and resource for any retailer!
