Kate Bush releases a special 4 CD collection ‘The Other Sides’ on March 8, available to pre-order from today, Feb 22. ‘The Other Sides’ is the final physical instalment of the definitive catalogue remastering project that was released in November 2018 on vinyl and CD boxes. This new release separates the rarities collection from the remastered CD box 2. The 4 CDs celebrate b sides, 12” mixes, rare tracks and cover versions – with one CD being devoted to covers including Kate’s versions of Elton John’s ‘Rocket Man’ and ‘Candle In The Wind’, and George and Ira Gershwin’s ‘The Man I Love’. Rare tracks such as ‘Brazil’, from the film soundtrack, ‘Lyra’ from the film ‘The Golden Compass’, ‘Be Kind to My Mistakes’ from Nic Roeg’s film ‘Castaway’ and ‘Humming’, an early demo never released before, are also featured in the special set.

Couldn't afford the very expensive remastered versions of her entire catalogue but was envious of this collection as I hadn't got or even heard the vast majority of these 4 CDs, so jumped at the chance when it was sold separately and glad I did as it has lots of hidden gems scattered over all CDs. Highlights for me include Experiment IV 12inch, Under the Ivy, Be Kind to my Mistakes, December will be Magic again, Rocket Man, Lagan Love. Their are no songs though that I would skip over. Faults are though that their could be more I really would like Ken for example and it could have been put on two CDs. A CD from her first live performances would have been good as well. I can understand though that some songs she may have preferred too miss out as it may have created too much fat on an almost perfect set of songs.

Some of Kate's lesser known work
I already have "This woman's work" on cassette so it was great to hear the side Bs again and a few extra that I didn't know she recorded.

Incredible music, but missing some crucial tracks
This is far from being a perfect compilation. There are lots and lots of extended versions and remixes from The Red Shoes era which were left out. Same with some B-sides and rarities which are nowhere to be found (The Empty Bullring, Dreamtime, Not This Time, Ken and The Confrontation are all MIA, and so is The Magician, from The Magician of Lublin soundtrack). The package itself is also lacking - a booklet would’ve been nice, but there’s none to be found. But what’s actually there is great, so I can’t really complain - there’s even a previously unreleased track (at least to my knowledge), a demo called Humming. All in all, a very good, albeit incomplete, addition to her discography. I hope the next release will be a complete singles collection, including all the hard to find different versions of her great singles, preferably with a companion DVD including all the videos (The Line, the Cross and the Curve could be an extra, making it an even better release). Anyway, thanks, Kate. It was a sweet surprise to get this as a stand-alone release. A solid four-stars collection of much-more-than-five-stars music.

The Other Sides kate bush CD
Wonderful. Yes, we can all cherry pick through and find rarities than have mostly so far only leaked on to Youtube (in varying degres of audio quality). Hard core fans (like me) will no doubt have their "mix-tapes" of these. But what has to be taken into consideration is the entertainment factor of an officially released selection. This is a superb selection, played regularly rather than just archived away on my shelf. Love it. Love the packaging. Hopefully, in due time, there will be more.

What's Not to Like!
Most of us Kate Bush fans have everything Kate produces.Aware that I have a number of these tracks included in the Woman's Work box set that was released some time ago, there are still a large number of songs that are here in one collection for the first time. This collection is definitely worth buying and a reasonable price for four discs. I also like the packaging which is in a book form.
