Q: Which is more durable underneath..durock or hardibacker? do you have any special recommendations for an outdoor countertop in maine w/ harsh winters?

Hardie Backer is more rigid. There are no special recommendations, other than be sure to seal properly. The tops hold up in both hot summer temps and cold winter conditions.

Q: I'm going to do a bar top with a 6 inch overhang... Can i install this over plywood to provide more support or does it have to be backer board?

We recommend cement board such as Hardie backer for two main reasons. 1. It will not shrink, expand or warp like plywood will which can cause cracking. 2. The concrete binds much better to cement board. You can still do up to a 12" overhang with nothing but Hardie Backer but you will need to temporarily support this overhand while the concrete is poured. These supports should stay in for the first few days of curing.

Q: Is this form flexible? I need to bend it to an 8' radius.

You can bend the forms by cutting relief V notches in them but how much you can bend them depends on the profile you choose. The more decorative profiles will start to deform as you bend them too far. The Square edge can bend to any radius and the Half Bullnose and Fancy will also bend pretty well. This Full Bullnose profile will not bend too well. We do also sell a pre-notches Square edge form called the Bendable Square Form.

Q: How do you do the corners on the bullnose?

The forms are cut on a miter saw or miter box. To do a 90 degree corner, you cut 45 degree angles on the forms. If you search YouTube for "Z Counterform" you will find some helpful intersectional videos as well.
