Soooo worthwhile reading
Thought there was not much else to learn. Wrong. There is.I’ve 30++ years in strength training, own a gym, have my CSCS, work as personal trainer, and have tried to read (or watch on YouTube) everything worth knowing. This book opened up an entire new school of thought on “awkward weight training”.We’ve had a few sandbags in our gym...occasionally I’ve thrown them around for variety following typical sandbag movement books. Couldn’t really get much about it organized into any sort of system so didn’t give it much attention. This book by Henkin is true *system* for training, as compelling as barbells or kettlebells or calisthenics. This one is a game changer. What Rippetoe’s Starting Strength is for barbells, Pavel’s main KB books are for that, or Bret Contreras’ recent masterpiece Glute Lab is. Opens you up to understanding a different training mode far more deeply than you’ld ever think possible. If you work through the exercises in the ways explained here you’ll discover just how much the sandbag can offer. New skills to be acquired. Dormant muscles to be activated. How cool is that. There are a few annoyances and upgrades I would have liked, which I’ll mention, though I’m still going with my 5-Star two-thumbs up rating, which I seldom give. Several grammatical & spelling errors pop up. Ok, no biggie, but just sort of off putting given how excellent this book is otherwise. Maybe self published and not so perfectly proof read...? A few sections where I felt Josh was going on a bit long, 3 or 4 pages of discussion, though mostly his commentary is insightful and fascinating. The demo photos are basically good, but they’re distributed randomly across the book so when you want to go back and look over you’ll need to go hunting through your notes. (YouTube’s of most of the ex’s are up as well.). A photographic table or hyperlinked reference would have been helpful in the final Programs section, if he decides to write a next edition maybe he’ll add.Well, that’s it. Usually I dislike the (typically Dragon Door) author trying to sell his gear or other programs through his book, but in this case I did not mind, his Ultimate Sandbag has special features that make sense and I did decide to order one after reading this. That’s about it. Enjoy.

I thought I knew a lot about working out. Then I read this and learned about another level.
I had to read this book severalk times to get all the knowledge out of it. I’ve read dozens and dozens of books on training. This book showed me a another level. If you take your training seriously, this book is a must read.

Just good info
the info is good for somebody who is new to the awesome sandbag workout. It is a little heavy in the words. the author rants a lot. I would prefer more and better detail info about the workouts. Good book if you are a beginner.

It’s Not Just a Sandbag.
It’s a system. Josh Henkin’s lays it out in his new book DVRT The Ultimate Sandbag Training System: For Dynamic Power, Superior Athletic Performance and Enduring Strength. Josh shows you How to train with the Ultimate Sandbag in a progressive way. He starts at the beginning with the deadlift. From there to the front hold clean. Then moves to the bear hog squat. Each exercise leads to another, and to another. It builds off each exercise to progress to the next. DVRT is a system that works!Once you have the basic exercise Josh gives you workout at the back of the book. Set up as Beginner, Intermediate and Advance. As a trainer and a DVRT certified coach I recommend starting with the beginner workout. As you get better progress the next level. The workouts are deceiving. That is what I and my clients like about using DVRT in our training.

It's a nice adjunct to use along with DVRT's video instruction as ...
This book systematically takes you through the basics of the DVRT system, focusing on both how to do things and why. It's a nice adjunct to use along with DVRT's video instruction as you are learning how to use an ultimate sand bag in your training. Josh Henkin is a knowledgeable guy, and the book is a good resource to get started with the USB. If you are a less experienced exerciser, pay extra attention to where the book talks about earning progress each step of the way.

Merrill Bruce Lyman
It arrived quickly. It was used in good condition with some underlines. It describes in detail the techniques for exercise with a sandbag. The sandbag is very highly rated for exercise as it stresses the sagital plane. The bulky, off center nature of the load makes it somewhat difficultto lift. You probably want to do 'around the world' with half your weight. You will have to work up to it.

easy read and workout
If you're looking for a quick, easy read and workout, this isn't the book for you. Josh outlines a very specific system when it comes to his DVRT program. But he has his reasons. This is a great book for a coach or somebody really looking to get the benefits of sandbag, training. He breaks the exercises down and provides steps to getting from the basics to more advanced ones. I really appreciated the way he outlines the benefits and methods of unilateral-style training.

Binding poor
Awesome material but the binding was falling apart right out of the packaging.

Well researched
I've been training with the sandbag for a short time now and I really enjoy it. Josh's system seems very thorough and the book contains everything anyone would need to begin training. I bought it for the kindle, but the kindle lacks the ability to quickly flip back and forth through the book -- so I bought the paperback as well. I read it all the way through on the kindle and noticed many spelling mistakes which was disappointing but in the end the information is what counts.

Excellent detail
Excellent explanations of all the key moves which is not easy in a book. A bit boring to read through but worth it. Loses a star for poor quality photos. Other than that very good need. Great training protocol

A must read! Cutting Edge Science
The DVRT system is a game changer. Once you read this book your perspective will change how the body actually functions. There's a saying " once you see it you cannot unsee it"I have been a fan years. Putting DVRT principles into my program got me strong. Very strong. I excelled in many barbell lifts. Like my bench press my barbell squat with weights I never imagined. I AM MORE resilient and my energy levels have spiked. My clients who commited to DVRT had fixed their low backs, shoulders and hips making them strong not only in the gym but real life. This book is a must if you want to stand out in the industry. You will gain tremendous confidence and skill. You will only align yourself with the best of the best out there. 10/10
