Tribal Active Energy Gel Smoothie, Mixed Flavours - Sustainably Sourced Baobab Super Fruit Performance Nutrition - 3 x Pineapple & Baobab, 3 x Morello Cherry & Baobab (6 x 100g)

I'm a triathlete and I much prefer to eat real foods than artificial energy gels. First time trying this, and it was one of the best tasting sports nutrition products I've had. I ordered the Smoothie Mixed box to try the two flavours - Morello Cherry and Pineapple. Both have a combination of sweet and sour, and the texture is kind of like a compote... much smoother than your typical energy gel. Basically it's real food - no maltodextrin or artificial sweeteners. When I'm on my bike I don't have to finish it all in one go, as it has a screw-top.

My title says it in a nutshell! The 'hook' is the baobab, which I have never tasted 'neat' - and could not distinguish from the main flavours. This hook may also put people off as being a bit of a gimmick. It certainly jacks the price up. The idea is clearly to put out an internationalist, hip, eco vibe quite separate from either the performance or the tast of the smoothie gel. I may even deduct another star for this shameless band-wagon jumping show-boating! (I can mix metaphors with the best of them....)The taste is very close to the old baby foods which I was addicted to into my early teens. The pineaple one is VERY close to that. Both that and the morello cherry flavour taste really nice and have a tartness that refreshes. The texture is perhaps not to everyone's taste though - unless you are also a baby food freak that is! Performance wise, I suspect the product is excellent, but it would need a major study to prove this.I will use and eat the contents of these sachets for as long as I can get them for free. Personally I would never purchase them, BUT they are not much more expensive than useless or harmful sweets, so I am sure they will find a worthwhile niche - hence my final very positive score.

Bought these as an early Christmas present for my brother in law who is a keen triathlete & does the occasional Iron Man, he loved them & tells me they’ll now be a regular part of his training programme! Thank You!

I found the taste of these quite pleasant, perhaps a little over-sweet, but distinctly less appertising when not cooled. Compared with the gels I normally use when running distances, they are harder to stow and while easy to open the lid creates either a carrying problem of a litter problem. The cost is considerable compared to traditional gels too.

The taste is kinda weird. Not necessarily in a bad way, just not your usual energy gel. Got em to refuel on longer runs but the consistency is kinda yogurty and i never used them during an actual run. Just felt like it'd do more harm than good.

Item delivered 1st Oct best before August. Hugely disappointing as was for marathon. Do not buy.
