Basic info - not worth $10.00
Meh. Much of the information in this book is available online. It has one recipe for Henna, which I have not yet tried, and I'm sure is fine; what I don't care for is the lack of detailed explanation as to why the addition of the essential oils of "seeds of any kind" will make the henna application darker. I don't know the accuracy of this statement (not having personal experience), but the author says to "feel free to try the seeds from any plant" (barring any allergies), and doesn't explain the chemistry behind it. The book provides the basics, a short list of resources, designs, and a gallery of nice pictues. There is little about the history of henna, or the science behind her recipe however. It wasn't worth the $10.00 I paid for it.

Not a starter kit. Just the book.
The book seems very knowledgeable on henna. I'm just disappointed that it did not come with some premade henna ink like some other reviews suggested it did. I was under the impression that it was a starter kit. But I guess that was my mistake. Good quality book. Nice photos in it.

Great Quality. Will buy again
Great quality henna. Used for tattoos and it has a good stain. Make sure you give it time to release the dye once you mix with something acidic. I let it sit overnight with lemon juice and black tea and mixed in my essential oils in the morning. After about six hours I started filling my bottles and my fingers stained right away so he careful! It's very strong and if you make a mistake tattooing it'll leave a stain for a day or 2 before fading, EVEN IF you wipe it off right away. Great stuff!!

actually Pinterest may be better.
Meh, save your money, no novel ideas in here, even for a beginner. Just go on Pinterest and look at henna, same thing, actually Pinterest may be better.

Beautiful; Very Good for Beginners
This book is large, gorgeous, and glossy, full of colorful and inspiring photos. It is, however, a little on the short side, at just over 100 total pages. The book begins with some simple instructions for mixing henna, with a good, though basic, introduction to some recipe and application variations and options. In the style of many hobby/craft books, it uses text and photos to teach, step-by-step, techniques for creating some basic designs, moving on to suggest three (one of each) "beginner," "intermediate," and "advanced" tattoo projects to get you started. Then it enters into the Gallery, full of very beautiful photos to inspire you. Next is the Design section, a little over 40 pages long, with ~1-2 large images on each page spanning design ideas for hands, feet, back, shoulder, plus some additional flourishes and elements. Afterwards, it gives you a few blank hand/feet/etc Templates to photocopy and use to sketch out and/or record some of your own designs. It ends with an often-overlooked, though brief (10 pages or so), section on using henna as artwork on objects, which was one of the things that attracted me to the book.Henna/mehndi artists new and old should be aware that there are many comprehensive and entirely free ebooks by TapDancing Lizard Publications available online, which contain lots of designs and lots of detailed and in-depth information; however, I personally still very much like having books like this one in my library. I was quite delighted with this purchase, and would certainly recommend the book to others, especially to beginners, though I think the designs and photos would keep the interest even of more advanced henna artists.

Book and patterns are basic
I understand that this is a beginners book, but the Mehndi artwork from someone who is supposed to be an expert looked extremely basic compared to what I've been reviewing in other books and on the Intenet. There is only one page of five or six basic shapes, but there is no instruction on putting them together, or how to flow designs. Just a bunch of templates if you want to copy her designs. I would not recommend this book. Not to mention that the book I received was obviously used, as there were smudges on several pages, and one of the actual templates --a blank page one should use for practicing designs--had been colored in with a marker! I gave this review two stars because there are a lot of templates if someone is interested just in copying someone else's work. I am returning this book.

Great book with good illustrations and everything you need to ...
Great book with good illustrations and everything you need to know to get started learning how to do Henna. She gives you the recipe and hints with possible variations. She also provides basic design components to get you started making your henna art. I am having a blast with her designs and templates as I practice on anyone who will let me apply henna on their hands and feet.

Ok for ideas
Some nice ideas in this book which you could copy or transfer onto the body. The author lost me a bit when she suggested putting a of a and water mix over the top of the henna to make it last longer.. not sure I'll be doing that!
