Higgins Sunburst For Cockatiel 3 LBS.

My Cockatiel has been on this seed since he was a baby. I sprinkle some Higgins Safflower mix in with the Sunburst for a little variety, but he really prefers the Sunburst. He will be 21 years old in a few months; I'd say that this seed is a good testimony to his longevity.

Higgins Pet Food Sunburst Gourmet Cockatiel Diet 3Lb, Large My 3 'rescue' cockatiels are notoriously picky: shunning a lot of healthy veg and fruit, and leaving most of the Harrison's pellets I mix into their food.That food was pre-mixed cockatiel seed, sometimes from a parrot store (if I was in its vicinity)...but, mostly from Hartz, etc. That is mostly fatty food, and I needed something healthier that they would enjoy.After reading a lot of reviews for this mix, I tried a bag several months ago; and, they luv it! There's a citrus aroma when the bag is opened, and the mix is unquestionably fresh (never had any fruit flies, either). They tend to eat more of the pellets mixed in with this...and, as they have gotten used to the healthier mix, they are even eating some veg.I would give it 5 stars, except for one minor gripe: the percentage of sunflower seeds is too high. If they cut that by about 50%, it would be enough to entice the birds to the bowl...but, would force then to eat a higher percentage of the healthier ingredients.

I agree with the other commenter that there far too many sunflower seeds which is why I gave 4-stars. My little cockatiel LOVES the food but hates the sunflower seeds (I know, she is pretty finicky) and she just tosses them out. In fact I wish there was a version without sunflower seeds or at lease less but it seems most come with. I will say it does smell fresh, & very citrusy, which I do like.

All of these seed blends are all made up of seeds and other added extras. I only feed bird seed as secondary feed. I recommend organic bird food if you want your bird to live a long time. My cockatiel is about 30 years old and he is cranking right along.

My Cockatiel loves it except it is waaaaay over packed with sunflower seeds. She doesn't like them so much, so my Lovebird gets them. Just a hassle having to get them out of the her bowl and in to his and then giving her more food
