Everlast 70-Pound MMA Poly Canvas Heavy Bag

My wife and I wanted to get a bag to hang in the garage to work out on. This bag was slightly shorter than I expected, but that's a non-issue - it's a starter bag, and it's plenty big enough for the average person starting off. The materials are constructed well, the gloves that come with it are useful and nice (although the thumbs are open, which is weird to me). I HIGHLY recommend picking up the "Everlast Double End Heavy Bag Anchor" to go along with this to keep the bag secure. Without it it's a bit hard to get a decent rhythm going on the bag. Plus by not stabilizing the bag you could place extra strain on your wrist by striking the bag as it swings back, increasing the impact. It just doesn't seem ideal.(I'm not a trainer or anything remotely close to knowledgeable on the subject - for all I know there's a perfectly valid reason to allow the bag to swing around all loosey goosey, it just seems like a bad idea, and in my limited experience with boxing/martial arts, I've always used either an anchored bag, had a spotter to hold the bag, or used a bag so heavy I couldn't Captain America punch it to make it move.)To hang it I bought a D ring bracket and mounted it to a stud in the ceiling of the attic with some really long decking screws, but the screws are already starting to work themselves a little loose due to all the stress being placed on it, so I'm going to try and find a way to modify the mount. I do recommend you plan through where and how you'll mount the bag beforehand so that you don't find an excuse to put off setting it up and using it. It did take 2 people to hang the bag - one to hold it, and one to attach it. I probably should have had a 3rd person helping me hold it, but apparently I enjoy back aches and stubbornness.Once you get it setup, if you're not familiar with using a punching bag, you might be surprised at how intense of a workout it can be. 15-30 minutes of consistent, rhythmic punching, keeping your core tight, along with plenty of hip and leg movements (don't statue up and just stand there; dance around the bag a little) will conjure up a sweat pretty quick; you'll be sore faster than you expected to be. Just be sure you're making a solid connection with the bag, and you aren't hitting it at an angle that twists or snaps your wrists - a wrist sprain will end the fun pretty quickly.OH and DON'T use the bag bare knuckled or with just the wraps on - USE GLOVES. The first day I set it up I just had wraps on and was lightly hitting the bag (not full-on workout, just goofing around) and managed to take the skin off my knuckles on both hands without realizing it, which made actually wearing the gloves and using the bag much less comfortable later on. (I did look like I got into a fist fight, though, and just kept saying "you should see the other guy" when people asked what happened...)tl;dr: buy the bag, use the gloves.

So, if you’re like me & you’re reading this you’re probably reading reviews about this bag because you see it’s very inexpensive & available as an Amazon Choice, with Prime shipping. But, your probably also seeing several negative reviews about the quality.I’ve had the bag now for a while & been using it regularly. By that, I mean, I use it on a weekly basis. I am not a boxer & I don’t work with it daily. I just wanted something I could use at home to incorporate into my cardio workouts. I have had bigger, heavier bags in the past. If you’re more into boxing you’ve probably used the larger bags that are very dense & filled with sand. This bag is not like that. It’s labeled as an MMA bag. I don’t do MMA, so I’m really in no place to speak on their training methods, but I imagine they may at times work with smaller, softer bags as they do kick work & their gloves aren’t as padded as boxing gloves. Either way, the nice thing about this bag is it’s only 70lbs which means I can remove it pretty easily when I’m not using it. I don’t mind that it’s a softer bag as it allows me to use minimally padded gloves.Pros: the best thing about this bag is the price & prime shipping. You’re not going to find a deal like this anywhere else. I looked. So, it’s worth it for that reason alone.Cons: the quality isn’t great & I’d imagine it’d get trashed pretty quickly if it was being used daily by someone far more skilled than myself. But, for me it’s perfect. As noted, I was just looking for an affordable option for someone with very limited & amateur use.Tip: based on other reviews, I purchased a roll of gorilla tape off Amazon & taped up the straps to add additional support & prevent tearing &/or damage. So far, this has worked great (see photos). Seeing as how the bag is already very affordable, I’d recommend you spend the extra $10 for a roll of tape & do what I did, & tape it up.Overall: I’d say “know what you’re buying” & you’ll be happy. If you’re looking for a cheap bag, for occasional & limited use, you can’t beat the price. If you’re looking for something of higher quality for regular use, you probably already know a lot more about bags than I do & therefore don’t need this review & will have no interest in this product.As Described? Lastly, as many reviews noted... the description claims you’ll receive additional equipment such as gloves, etc. with the bag. This is not true. You’ll only get the bag. I went into the purchase with that in mind, so I was not disappointed when that’s all I received.
