DMC5628-W Six Strand Embroidery Cotton, 500gm, White

I can't say it loud enough - this is a TON OF EMBROIDERY FLOSS!!!!! Yes, this seems to be genuine DMC six strand embroidery floss, there's a DMC stamp on it. This color 321 a.k.a. Christmas Red is DMC's most popular standard red. I recently decided to try purchasing basic colors in bulk because I got tired of the leftover bits from each regular skien that weren't long enough to use in my next project. I ordered 100g cones of black and white, but bought this 500g cone of red because of the incredibly low price of $16.09. Maybe it was on sale at the time but this 500g red cone was cheaper than the going price for 100g cones. Win, win! Of course having never purchased embroidery floss in bulk before, I had no idea what 500g meant - IT'S A LOT!!! I will never ever have to purchase red floss again in my life, no kidding. The picture certainly doesn't give you any idea how big it is. It's big, but not so huge that storage will be a problem. Two 500g cones fit into a women's athletic shoe box, with little room for anything else in the box. Overall, this is a great value for the price. It's more red floss than I need or want, but not so much that storage will be a problem. This is 2,270 yards of floss. Each regular skien is 8.7 yards, which means this is the equivalent of 261 skiens.

If you are in the know, you know, some of us stitchers go through a LOT of 310. This floss cone is the most economic way to go if you plan on using skein after skein of it. I averaged it out to about .30 cents a skein, which is a significant savings.The quality of my cones floss is excellent, and just as I expect from the DMC brand.

This cone is huge! Much larger than I was expecting since I had never seen one in person. I will not have to buy black floss for a long time.

So glad I ordered when I did. People are having a hard time finding DMC black thread. I belong to a group & our patterns use a lot.

I use a lot of black embroidery floss - lately, I have bee using it to hand=quilt old t-shirts into squares.I started out just using it to outline the black 'coloring book' lines on a 20-yr-old shirt that I loved. Made the design pop right back out again. Then I started taking others, and using those black edging lines to make quilt squares, to make a quilt out of these shirts I don't really where but are precious.So I have been using a lot of it, which means going to buy it, then winding it on those little plastic squares you have to use unless you want your floss to get all tangles.THIS solved so many problems. Seems to be just the same DMC quality, too.

Be aware that this is 1.3 MILES of DMC 310. Why they list it by the weight, we will never know. It would be more helpful if they would list it by the yardage/meters. It is not the smaller cone. This is the one that is as big as your head. I have already told my adult children that I'm leaving it in my will to them. So, if you need more DMC 310 that you will probably use in your lifetime, this is the one you want to order. Do not order this if you have underlying health conditions that make you easily startled by enormous cones of floss. I have affectionately nicknamed mine the "Cone of DOOM!"

I cross stitch alot. As much black as I'm using, this is a great buy. Wish I'd known about it earlier

This is an amazing amount of DMC 310, equivalent to about 262 skeins or so. I will be honest and say, the first few pulls off of the cone are a bit flimsy, but I think that is due to the very outside thread being banged around in transit. Aside from that first little bit, it has been great. I refill a wooden bobbin with about 3 skeins worth as I need it, and keep it in a cupboard in a bag otherwise. Affectionately known as the CONE OF DOOM. <3
