Very customizable
I read a lot of reviews on this gate and I was hesitant to purchase because of all the negative responses about installation but it was the only one I could find that mounted like this one at an angle with no lower bar to trip over like the pressure mounted gates have. We had to install this in a VERY funky area (against a kitchen cabinet and the corner of a wall). The customizability of this product made that possible. Once we installed it (yes the directions are funky and yes pictures are in the back of the book, but it is do-able people) we realized we made the right purchase. It meets our criteria for being sturdy (even though much of the mounting hardware is made out of plastic) and easy to use with one hand. The gate is very easy to open and shut, and we go in and out of it at least 30 times a day so that was important. As for the installation, you have to realize that because it's so customizable it's not an "easy, ikea-esque 20 minute installation" it takes some thinking and planning but if you need an angle mounted gate, this one will do the job, even in unusual areas like ours!FYI - There is a you-tube video about how to install the gate if you're interested.

Awesome Gate! We've owned it 4 yrs. Basic but all you need.
This is an excellent gate. I bought it in 2011 and it's still going strong. It is very easy to install and I am a female. Follow the directions and you'll be good. We use this gate to keep our dogs from coming into the garage though the back door. I installed it to the outside frame of the door so when we open it the dogs don't run in. Also I installed it to the frame using drywall screws to withstand the elements and my dogs. In other words, the way we have it installed the weather is a factor - the rain, snow, sleet hits it all the time. It withstands the weather elements well. We like having the door open to get a breeze through it. But this gate has withstanded 4 dogs one of which is 80 pounds and it's still standing strong. Also, my 80 pound dog does jump and lean on this gate on a daily basis.Since I bought it in 2011 here is how it is holding up:- Under weather does awesome. After 4 years of outside use it appears a few of the screws have some rust (the side which gets the most rain, etc.) but the gate still has all the original coating. No scratches from dogs so obviously the coating is very thick and high quality. The paint looks A1 for 4 years.- To open the gate: you put pressure on it and slide. It take a while to get use to but overall does great. With it being in the elements it has had it's moments getting stuck but we greased it and then it works great again.- Also, the gate does swing both ways which makes it great!- When installing the gate: the gate itself does slide bigger and smaller to fit your doorway easily and then screws in the middle prior to installing ... very easy.Overall it looks and works the same as it did the day we installed it. No plans on replacing it anytime soon.Very happy I got it. Highly recommended for dog or baby/toddler purposes. :) Britty Approved!

Sturdy, difficult assembly
This gate seems pretty sturdy. We've had wooden ones and the dogs break them once in a while so we were looking for a more sturdy option. The weak point will be the mounting hardware, it's all plastic, but time will tell.Putting this item together was kind of a pain. It's not really intuitive at all, and the instructions are unclear. I bought 2 and one was missing parts so I'm waiting on the manufacturer to mail the parts to me. But eventually I figured one gate out and got it hung on the wall.Once hung it's a good-looking gate and I'm happy with it, so all things considered I'll give it 4/5 stars. I'd buy it again.ETA: Its been 3 weeks, replacements for the missing hardware haven't arrived. The company said they did send them but it looked like they got lost, so they have sent another set. Fingers crossed it arrives. That said, my dexterity-limited housemate doesn't have trouble opening the one gate that is installed, and it's pretty sturdy so far.Update August 2020: someone voted this helpful, which brought me back to it. The company did get a new set of hardware to me. The gates are still going strong after over a year. The plastic mounting system is very sturdy, still working great. Despite the wonky assembly I'd still recommend it, and I have recommended it to friends. Stands up to some rough treatment from the dogs.

It’s the only thing that would work
Update 2: if I could give this thing zero stars I would. We just tried to install it in a different location where we now need a gate—-only because it was so expensive we were trying to use it again. Let me tell you, my husband and I almost killed each other out of frustration during the install. I swear the makers of this gate got together and said “ok how can we frustrate the F&$K out of people who are already at their wits end: parents of toddlers”Update: Dropped a star. About 1 year later and my son has ripped this thing out of the wall 3 different times. First time we switched to the metal toggle type anchors. Second time we switched to 150 pound rated anchors. No match for my 20 month old. So unless you have a stud to mount to, absolutely DO NOT buy this gate. It won’t last.Original review:This is literally the only thing I could find that would work for our space. My kitchen entrance has 2 walls that do not line up. I have installed 5 baby gates over the past few months and this one by far was the most complicated. You have to get it exactly perfect otherwise it won’t close properly. The guides they provide are useless because they’re long strips of flimsy paper. It will not be level unless you use a leveler. There are like 6 extra holes in my walls because I had to reposition so many times. Also, I just ended up leaving out the bottom mount where it closes because it was so off and I didn’t want to put even more holes in the wall. Finally, the thing that bothers me most is that the rigged handle that you open with your thumb—-the ridges are so sharp it actually hurts my thumb to open. Guess I’ll just develop a callous over time.
