Hunted: House of Night Series, Book 5

The latest of a different vamp series
I have read all of the House of Night series. Truthfully, I'd not been aware of it until I saw the authors on TV. I got the books and started reading. Will it outdo Twilight series? No. Harry Potter? No. But is it an innovative take on vampyres? Yes.Zoey Redbird has been marked - some weird looking dude appears before her and says some weird words, and disappears. She discovers she has the outline of a crescent moon on her forehead! This means she is tapped to be a student and part of The House of Night - a school for fledgelings who will either become a vampyre, or their bodies reject the process and they die!Zoey finds friends who in various books are BFF's or giving her the cold shoulder. Zoey has found she has a great gift given to her by the goddess Nix - she can cast the circle and can call on all the elements - indeed the first book's magic - was, well, when the magic of the circle comes.Zoey's mentor and counselor is Neferet, who in my mind resembles the good witch from The Wizard of Oz - very beautiful, very powerful. Neferet is the High Priestess of The House of Night. The whole series is addictive to me - I love vamps - indeed am writing my own vamp novel based on my popular short story THIRST - but I have more questions than answers -Who pays the kids' tuition and living expenses?Aside from the undead, how do the adult vamps feed? Dixie cups? I know mixed in wine - but I want to know -The path of Neferet has been really great - from goody two shoes to oh my gosh - wanting to be all powerful consort of the immortal Kalona - whom she brought back by an ancient magic -The kids fighting back uniting in the name of following Nix.How do all of the kids when they are marked all of a sudden give up their religions and follow Nix? Although the Goddess Nix is wonderful and in book four the nuns say she is another name for the Holy Mother -Lots of everyday questions - but the series is a lot of fun and you root for all the kids who are part of Zoey's life. The additions of Native American culture is amazing and the most important element of strength that Zoey had - to learn about the Culture, and the myths, is great.I have to admit I read each book in a day - and have already ordered book six.It is a great series - I am older than what the books are intended for, but that is true of Twilighters, and Harry Potter fans. The older fans can enjoy it too.Aside from some of the questions I mentioned - and more - I love this series -Now my vamp hero is nothing like these - well maybe like Loren - although he doesn't look like Loren did - but he has the heart of a poet yet can bite you in the throat if you cross him! This makes the concept of vampire or vampyre stories so much fun - any take on them, make it believable in some magical way, and you have a winner!Got to read all the books - and read again!Excellent!

Good story BUT
Love the storyline. Its easy to get hooked on these books. But why does the heroine have be drooling over so many guys? A standoff with two guys is great and all but Ive lost count of how many guys she "feels something" for at this point. Home girl professes her commitment to one guy and goes and makes out with another one every other chapter. Ill finish the series, because now I'm invested in the story but im definitely feeling a bit icky, and confused with the romance plots.

House of Night steps it up a bit
Okay, so the House of Night series is seriously one of the most guilty pleasure-ish young adult series I've read. Emphasis on the guilty part. You know when you go to the airport, and you're waiting at your gate for your flight, and you look over at the little old lady sitting next to you? She might be reading a book, but she's angled it so that you can't quite see what it is. But she seems really into it, and you start to wonder what she's reading. Then maybe something happens and she readjusts herself, and the cover of her book flashes into view, and you see a shirtless Fabio-type man with long, flowy hair holding a busty woman whose corset dress is looking rather askew. It has a title like "Seduced by a Rogue Lord" or "The Virgin's Wicked Deed", and you feel a blush rising to your cheeks, and you think to yourself, Why the hell would she be reading that in public?!Well, that's kind of how I feel about House of Night.Let's be honest with ourselves here--House of Night is hardly a work of ground-breaking literature. It's pure and utter book candy, something you know is bad for you, but you just keep eating and eating because you can't stop. And oh, how delicious the candy is.Which brings me to Hunted, the fifth installment of the series. I'll admit, I actually wasn't really looking forward to this book that much, just because I felt that Untamed was quite a bit of a letdown, both story-wise and writing-wise. After three completely squee-worthy books, the fourth just wasn't up to par. So, then came this one. And I'm pleased to say that Cast and Cast are finally back on their game. Well, as much as one can be on their game when writing a series with a fairly ridiculous premise, and complete Mary Sue of a main character, and cookie cutter villains. But you know what? All of that doesn't really bother me that much. Because honestly? The books are just so entertaining to read. For the most part. Yes, Zoey is absolutely perfect. She's been blessed with these powers that nobody else has, she's destined for great things, she makes stupid mistakes and faces pretty much no consequences for them, and she's definitely got the Anita Blake factor going for her--everybody wants to sleep with her. Erik wants to sleep with her, even though he spent most of book four simultaneously hating her and trying to make her miserable. Heath wants to sleep with her even though he pretty explicitly said in book four that he never wanted to be with her again. Stark wants to sleep with her, even though they've only known each other for like, one day. Kalona wants to sleep with her because she's A-ya reincarnated. Hell, I bet Loren Blake still wants to sleep with her from beyond the grave. The only males who don't want to sleep with Zoey are the gay ones.Speaking of gay, I don't really know why, but Cast and Cast seem to think that they have to make Damien and Jack really, really gay. I mean, so stereotypically gay that you wonder if they're going to strap a rainbow banner on their chests and start marching through the streets. As someone who knows several gay people, I can say with a fair amount of certainty that not all of them get really emotional every time something moderately frightening occurs, are obsessed with clothes and shopping, can cook really well, and basically act like they're the equivalent of a 12-year-old girl with menstrual cramps. I think pretty much everyone is familiar with homosexuals--we don't need Cast and Cast to overdo it like they are.As far the plot, it was pretty solid. Slow at first, but definitely picked itself up. It was fairly predictable, but what else can you expect from the book equivalent of marshmallow pudding? The only gripe I have is that it wasn't edited properly in a couple places. There were a few grammatical errors, and sometimes the authors mixed up Darius and Damien. Also, at the very end, they call Zoey's grandmother Stevie Rae's grandmother. But it wasn't too distracting. All in all, as much as I'm embarrassed to admit it, I had fun with Hunted. I wouldn't whip it out at the airport because I'd be a bit worried about what people would think of me, but I can safely enjoy it in private.4 out of 5 stars for really guilty entertainment but not really much else...

Reliving my childhood
I started reading this series at least 12 years ago, but didn't finish it because the public library did not have the last few books.I saw a tik tok video mentioning the series and then I recently bought the whole series to relive my childhood and to finally finish the series. The only thing I don't like is that the covers on Amazon have changed to more colourful covers. The books as I remembered had the black covers as seen on the page. This is an easy read. The characters are progressing and developing as the story goes on.

Repetitive
Here we are again! Again! 3 men who Zoey can't help finding attractive. There are bigger things going on but once more all Zoey is worried about is boy problems. Also, I am getting sick of the twins who can't seem to have their own opinions and they must agree on every little thing. Can we have a break and actually get two individual characters? No instead we get given more new characters to remember who probably don't have very well personalities and will just remain one dimensional.

hmm...
This used to be my one of my favorite of the series as it had a bit more happening in it than just boyfriends and i heart me brown pop-come on just admit its coke-However reading Hunted this time round i realised that it was more the same as book 4 throw in a new lad who cant miss a shot with his arrows and a few raven mockers that dont really do much and thats this book which is a shame really as the raven mockers were interesting to read and could have made this book far more gripping, the writing in this has became more condescending to the reader than it already was putting the story in an even more teeny language that is well... non existant -seriously who says bullpoopie at the age of 17??-. Teenagers dont even talk like that if they did they would be beaten to a pulp by today's youth.Zoey is a boring character, her friends try make jokes and have fun and she shuts them up, she is just to serious and flat. The other thing with this series is that all the way through she has been juggling with all the guys that stroll past her not knowing what to do with them. It's so false and unrelatable to so many people i dont quite understand why the authors have made her into a slag and get away with it because she is Chosen b Nix, if i were her fried id not have held back in saying what all the readers by now are thinking. That comment alone proves that Zoey is a completely distant character that not many could relate to.The book is however an easy read and though it was lacking anything spectacular it did introduce important characters to the only plot in these novels -which is kill Neferet and Kalona- also the addition of Stark who is witty and fun makes the next additions to this series more enjoyable.

please get on with it
I quite enjoyed this book on the whole and am looking forward to seeing where the series is going. My main complaints however is that the Casts seem to think the readers are a bit dim in that they have to remind us who everyone is - oh look these two are gay (yes we know) and the the twins they aren't really twins (we know). I could kinda understand that after in the first couple of books but we are now on book 5. I get annoyed a little bit with Zoey as she goes on and on about her boyfriend problems when it isn't really problems and more the fact that she can't make a decision. All that aside I enjoy the fact that the relationships between the characters and the harry potter stylee of the entire story. I do feel however that the format of each book is very samey and maybe the whole thing is being padded out to get an epic book detail. Maybe that is just me being cynical.

WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW
Like most I have fallen pray to the Twilight series, but unlike a lot, I really didnt want to read MORE Vampire book, far from it. Then a friend encouraged me to read Marked and assured me it was different from the normal Vamp's, and no glitter like with the Cullans. Anyway i gave it a go and here i am currently reading Hunted and cannot put them down, they are amazing and fun and hard to put down. I even passed them onto friends and they too, after the initial hesitation, have become hooked.Cant wait to read the next, then more more more
