Not bad
I'm not sure of the accuracy of this unit, having nothing to compare it to. Each time I hit the button I get a different result and after a few times, it goes back to the original reading. Maybe some human error? There was a period of time, it gave the same reading despite having 5.0 and a 10.0 UVB light source in two different rooms. This could be that the 10.0 was going bad, although it was only a month old.I will be comparing it to a well trusted source and see if there are differences. So far I have replaced the UVB bulbs and the meter reads correct for the range.

Useful product
Works fine, easy to use. Had an Oregon scientific uv meter which had a lot more features ...but never worked. This gives you a quick basic reading. Willing to pay more for a better reader but next step up is very expensive and not portable. Lightweight easy to carry. Comes with a belt clip and cord. Worth the price, better than competitors

Not a pro gear but very useful
I used it to measure UV light in and outside screened pool areas in Florida and was suprised about the quality of this gadget. I assume that it's showing a little bit too high level of UV but better then vice-versa during peak hours, but in low light (clouds etc). it's showing little bit too few ...Would buy again ....

I needed a simple but reasonably accurate way to determine ...
I needed a simple but reasonably accurate way to determine if plastic material advertised as blocking UV A an UV B was actually doing that because We had built a catio for our white cat and then found that sunning herself there, as intended, caused her to have sunburned ears with potential for skin cancer and amputation of the ears, so we wanted to be sure. We tested by pointing directly at the sun, and even a slight failure to align with the sun will produce a lower reading, but that is okay as long as you are careful. We would point at the sun without the material intervening and then with it, and the material caused the reading to drop from the 3 range to zero, so we have used it with confidence. Th big number produces a summary result but a more precise reading in milliwatts per square meter which allows fine-tuning the pointing of the instrument. The reading is a blend of UV A and UV B and a much more expensive instrument would be needed to measure those individually but these are the two components of sunburn and there was no need to separate them for our purpose.--Jerry

seemed to work initially.
we've had days reaching 11 on the uv index with clear skies.the meter never indicates higher than 6.The unit initially tracked with the winter and spring UV levels, but now it doesn't seem to be tracking.we've recently had days with the UV index around 10-12the meter is indicating a 6 when it should he an 11.Pretty cool meter. It seems to track with the averaged UV index on the weather app pretty well.I purchased it because I felt that the UV index numbers they posted on weather.com were inaccurate.sometimes it feels like the sun is cooking me. after using the meter and thinking about, it might be more infrared.eh. who knows.I was under the impression that all of the weather stations had incident UV measurement sensors, they don't.in a lot of cases it's an average number based off measurements and calculations.[...]i'm really curious to see what the readings are during the summer.

affordable safety information
Ultraviolet radiation is a leading cause of skin cancer, and the ultraviolet levels have increased. The scale used to go from 1 to 10, but there were so many 10 plus days that it was decided to extend the scale to 15. This Portable UV Checker displays the actual numerical value of the radiation, from 1 to 15, is small and light, and comes with a belt clip to make carrying it easier.Don't guess about the radiation levels you are going to be exposed to. This meter is an excellent investment for any person who spends time outdoors, and is very educational. After a season or two, your meter might start acting flaky. Remove the rear cover, hold the battery in position with your finger, and press the 'reset' button. Hopefully, this will cure the little critter of its malady, at least it did for mine. Now that I know this, I am raising my rating to 5 stars, because I have not seen anything comparable, either in function or in price.

needs LOTS of light!
Had to have a very strong UV source to get any readings at all on the meter. Direct sunlight in the winter wasn't enough to register any UV. I had to buy a UV light and shine it directly on the sensor to get any kind of reading.

It does what is said, PLEASE keep in mind ...
It does what is said, PLEASE keep in mind that it DOES NOT WORK ON UVB Bulbs. Only works outdoors.
