I purchased the 8 inch gaff. I am 5' 10". That, is a big solid steel HOOK. Bigger than I expected. Beafier than I expected. Gave me a bigger smile than I expected. I have an 800lb. link with 650lb. dock line attached. The loop on the hook is thicker than the 800lb. link. Not saying the hook is as strong of a steel as the link, but the weld is extremely good quality and the hook easily supported 200lb.s. I would not be surprised if it could support 400+ pounds. If you want it, buy it.

Great gaff! I have 6' gaffs just for Halibut. We have used Aftcos on halibut up to 160+ pounds. There are the best by far. I ordered these shorter ones for tuna fishing with a smaller hook. They are dynamite. I highly recommend them.

This Flying Gaff is one serious gaff. I bought it for the large Halibut I catch up here in Alaska. I'm going to start targeting Salmon Sharks up here and this is the gaff I need. Aftco is a company you can definitely trust.

Deducting one star because it didnt come with any kind of realistic tip guard, and after contacting aftco they were little help. luckily was able to find a spring guard that worked nicely. Not fishing out of a 30 foot boat so the gaff will always be close to someone which makes personal protection a must.

The sizing is incorrect. The hook is actually 3.5 inches and not 5. Not what I wanted, but will put it on another boat. If there is actually a 5in hook, I would love to purchase it. However, I can't get a response from the seller.
