Hitachi 6698397 Ignition Coil Assembly

Hitachi RB24EAP replacement coil. Was surprised how much of the blower you have to take apart to get to it (both the green sections and the fan have to come off) but its not technically that difficult to do. You will need Phillips and two different sizes of hex wrenches as well remove the fan which is held on with a bolt (mine was loose as well but came off easily with a crescent wrench). The one to take off the coil is 4mm hex and its on there really tight. Notice that it does have a gap in there between the engine and the coil, you will need to spin that around a couple times to see what the gap is as it passes the magnets. I used a couple pieces of paper together to estimate the gap. Once you loosen the coil and replace it, you will have to make sure the clearance is the same and it doesn't rub on the motor. Then reassemble. Because of the way you have to take everything apart, the wires and trigger will come out, so take a picture before you take off the left side (looking from the back) so that you see the routing of the wires and trigger. Fired up after putting back together. I replaced the coil because the blower would run for a while then would stop for no reason and no spark, until it cooled down then it would work again. Coil overheating and stopping working was my diagnosis.

Works great, just measure the gap between the old unit and the armature before you unbolt the old coil as it is magnetic and coil will move in when you loosen the bolts.
