Velocity - the secret to moving metal
This book was the beginning of the Velocity series for Dale Pollack. I read this book early in my career after using the vAuto suite of software on a daily basis. If you adapt the principles in this book to your used car retail strategy you will an improvement in volume. The car business is fluid and is ever-changing. You cannot depend solely on this book for your used car inventory retail strategy but it should be an integral part of your foundation. It is easy to read and the anecdotes provided throughout the book are something any person who was worked retail in the car business will easily relate to.

Inventory Is A Cost
While the book is a soft sell for the author's vAuto tool, the premise is very solid and relevant for all dealers. There is a capital cost associated with holding inventory, a value to velocity of turn on the inventory, and a balance point based on capital costs, average price, and inventory investment that dealers must make to maximize dealership profit. As a 25 year CPA/CFA now in the automotive business, I've been shocked by the lack of focus on profit maximization, and Dale Pollack provides a focus on inventory velocity that more dealers need to understand.

Outstanding!
This book takes a far different approach to the used vehicle business than I expected. Dale analyzes the U/C department with the same approach a skilled stocks and commodities broker would use, data and "return on investment" principles. Not only is it refreshing to find material on the retail automobile business, but Dale's innate intelligence and experience in the trenches really shines through with each and every page of this thought provoking book. Moreover, if I was a store owner or GM, this book of Dales' would be required reading for all department managers, not just the U/C manager-he intertwines the book into all facets of the retail dealership. I've already recommended this book to some of my dealer friends only to find out they have read it and are applying the principles, successfully, in their daily business regimen.Kudos to you Dale and I look forward to your next book.Stephen Conley

Different view of Inventory Management
Puts a model forward to create a higher focus and visibility on used vehicle inventory, based on data and Internet information. Technology has evolved from the publish date, but the direction stands.

21st century plan for profitable used car operations
Dale Pollak explains in simple terms how technology has changed the way dealers operate their used car business which is the backbone of any dealership. I've held every sales management position there is over 36 years and can say without question this is the most significant book about auto retailing you will ever read. Accept the premise and you will succeed, reject it and you are destined to fail.

It goes a little slow with lots of personal experience stories but I guess you have to have something to break up the technical stuff

Easy read
Good read but like most books written for the car business half the book is why you should purchase his software and we already use VAuto ( the software)

Interesting perspective on an often outdated way of doing business.
I'm "car guy". I understand how we have been doing business and I have seen us loose step in our market. I don't know if 100% of this thesis is right for our store, but some of it is definitely worth exploration. Well written and smoothly presented.
