I was looking for a medium charcoal for portrait sketches. This seems to be just what I was looking for.

well, the charcoal is great!
Note: please see my review of Grumbacher 12-pack soft charcoal from a different vendor(or, at least a different vendor name)- the same misleading photo and inadequate shipping container applies to this product (now at an even higher price). The picture/photo of the product is wrong! The photo implies you are getting much more of the product. Anyway, go to your local independent art store.

My go-to charcoal
IMO this is an excellent go-to medium vine charcoal. I keep it in my pencil box, sketchbooks and even a little 'emergency' kit in the car. Nice shading, nice lines. (YankeePainter.com)
