i love this book so much the quality is great, the cover and the paper feel so nice, it's so colorful and viberent yet easy on the eyes. They used 3 writing systems, english, romanji and japanese.i recommend it 10/10

This book is adorable in every way. The art is gorgeous and imaginative, and oh, so colorful. The story, too, is wonderfully written. For those of us who are very early into learning Japanese, the romanji was a wonderful addition, though when trying to read with the Japanese characters alone, it can be a little distracting. I must read this book several times a day to my daughters, and I love it so much I tend to read it on my own for Japanese practice. Anyone interested in learning Japanese, or reading in Japanese, or bilingual books in general should check out this book.

If I could give zero stars I would! I got this book since my granddaughter is moving to Japan (dad is military). We have been talking and learning about Japan to prep her for the move. This book is just awful. The story is not at all engaging. There is no phonetic rendering of the Japanese words so I have no idea how to pronounce them. The illustrations are bland. I would not recommend this book.

First read, study, write, memorize, write, study, memorize...I'm working on it. This book makes it simple to learn Japanese, thing is you have to read, study, write, memorize, study, write...If not for those things I'd learn so much from these books, but I have to make time to read, study...you get the idea. These books are very helpful learning basic Japanese. So I spent two hours...need more time.

Not only does this book have an adorable style and good message; this book is perfect for absolute beginners. There is no kanji, minimal katakana, almost all hiragana, and there’s the romaji spelling coupled with the English translation. This book can be taught to kids of either direction, beginners of English or Japanese.I recommend this kid’s book for people looking to get started with language learning.

What better way to introduce the languages of Japanese to English...or English to Japanese? Illustrations are simply delightful! I have purchased every language printed of these books and my grandchildren are expanding their language base.....and I am delighting in learning with them. What a grand concept!

Beautiful!!!!!!!! It’s a lot bigger then I thought and it’s simply gorgeous the art and the story are so darn cute! All my kids loved it (range from 3rd to 5th graders) and it’s so useful having the English, Japanese, and romaji! I want one in Spanish now for my nephew!

I really enjoyed this book to help me practice my terrible Japanese with my awful memory but I also liked the ideas it is teaching to young people.

Very useful for learning. A bit much to have the hiragana, romaji and English translation all on one page, but it definitely serves its purpose. Cute story with nice illustrations.

Surprised by how simple the book was written but also rather upset that some of the words used are slangs. I wouldn’t recommend it to those that are learning the language formally

Beautiful little story with great artwork with a wonderful point to make at the end.

Just what I was looking for. The book had cute pictures and clear text and was ideal for a small child.

After reading this book (I got it for my daughter who is bilingual), I returned it. 'Baka' is used repeatedly in a not entirely incorrect way (to mean ‘very big’) but mostly in Japanese it means ‘stupid’ and is an insult. I cannot imagine an actual children’s book from Japan would use this language. It felt very inappropriate. I can't see evidence that native Japanese speakers were involved in this Japanese-English version, which may explain things. Also, there is romaji, which is only useful for people who speak no Japanese whatsoever. The romaji is written first, and there is no kanji, so it looked to me like it was written for English speakers who don’t know Japanese. A bilingual book in my opinion is equally useful to speakers of both languages. Finally, I found the quality of the printing was cheap. I returned the book.

Excellent! Un livre écrit en anglais, romanji et hiragana. Dommage qu'il n'existe pas de version française/japonaise. Les dessins sont très jolies. Très utile de voir les mots placés dans de vrais phrases et d'en comprendre la structure.

This book's illustrations are gorgeous and the story is great! I have been reading mostly in Japanese to my 2nd-year-old daughter and she loves it. Whenever I have time to read to her, she wants this book. And she repeats words. That's insanely cute.
