Shirley Temple: Little Darling Pack (Little Miss Marker/Now and Forever/The Runt Page)

Allowed my wife to relive memories of watching Shirley Temple with her grandmother who passed a few years back. Good classic movies that I also recall watching with my grandmother. Not the disrespectful kids and trash most movies are these days.

I have found colorized versions of Little Miss Marker (free) on You Tube. I kinda wish the one in this little-d-pack had been colorized. Otherwise, I'm quite happy with it, and wonder if you all know where I can find some more of her movies from the time when she was in her teens and getting older...Like, I've found Kiss and Tell, A Kiss for Corliss, Miss Annie Rooney, and I'll Be Seeing You, but can't find Kathleen, Since You Went Away, The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, Honeymoon, Fort Apache, Adventure in Buffalo. Some I can find on Netflix, but the ones I can find on You Tube FREE are a blessing!Also I wish I could find Poor Little Rich Girl, not just clips of it, and colorized would be even better. I love her and all her movies. They put me in such a good mood.

While Shirley Temple is perhaps the greatest child star to ever live, she helped save the (20th Century) Fox studios from the ax. Mixed in between, she did two films from Paramount, both presented here, released by Universal (now Comcast). Both films are missing from Fox sets and are in pristine restored (and captioned) shape on this disc. They are the B&W originals, not the later colorized versions, which is why this disc gets only four stars from me.The real gem is the rarely-included The Runt Pack, the first picture Shirley ever appeared in. Again, the picture and sound quality are very clean and in the original B&W. What is more disappointing about the ten-minute picture is that all the children's spoken parts are voice-overs by adults. However, that doesn't make it any less valuable for the serious collector of Shirley Temple films.

It is very interesting to watch Shirley Temple improve in her acting, dancing and singing as I watch the movies. It is also a nice change of pace to today's "realistic" movies to watch movies that never fail to bring a wholesome laugh, a slight tear, and a big smile at the end. On the other hand, it is disturbing to notice the significant racial stereotyping and discrimination that is pervasive in the movies. At the same time, it is amazing to watch how movie technology changes just in the few years represented by the movies and in comparison to today. Overall, a good history lesson and an enjoyable way to spend 90 minutes.

I Love this Little StinkerStinker because she is so stinkin' cute. She's a miracle and and an old soul to bring joy to the folks suffering during the Great Depression. She's an antidote to Clinical Depression. The plot is preposterous. A willingness to believe love and kindness conquers makes the melodrama sweet.Thouroughly enjoyed Little Miss Marker. Can't wait to see it w/ my grandkids.

These films are great-very well restored. I had a good laugh at the short comedy"The Runt Page". I was pleased to see that the film makers did not prudishly put shirts on Shirley and the other little girl as they did in the similar short films included in the album-"My Early Years", Volume 1. The bodies of pre-pubescent girls are no different from those of boys,so why hide them? I would definitely recommend this album to all Shirley Temple fans.

Now and ForeverThis is actually quite a good film with Shirley Temple as the star of the show. Her scenes with Gary Cooper are movingly rendered and captures the joy of childhood. I'm surprised she wasn't in an episode of 'The Little Rascals'. She even outshines Carole Lombard in their scenes together. I've never been a fan of Lombard, and I don't think she is particularly attractive or that she can act. Cooper demonstrates that he can act wordlessly when Temple confesses to Lombard that he stole the necklace and hid it in Temple's teddy bear. You can see the guilt in his face, just as you could see compassion in his face in 'Mr. Deeds Goes to Town' when the unemployed man breaks into his house to plead his case. The camera even flatters Cooper making him far more photogenic than Lombard.Shirley Temple is a sweetie. You just want to scoop her up and cuddle her when you see her in her scenes with Cooper. She even has room in her heart to accept Lombard as a surrogate mother who competes for the affections of Cooper.

"Little Miss Marker" è stato riproposto in seguito con Walter Matthau e Julie Andrews con il titolo "E io mi gioco la bambina" (come spesso accade bruttissimo titolo per un bel film!), qui Shirley è a fianco di un bravissimo Adolph Menjou. In "Now and Forever" (titolo italiano "Rivelazione") la Temple è accanto a Gary Cooper e Carole Lombard. Due film riuniti nello stesso DVD proposti nella versione originale in BN. Purtroppo l'audio non prevefde l'italiano nemmeno nei sottotitoli. Il DVD, proveniente dagli USA, è ovviamente di regione 1, quindi visibile solo con lettori multiregione o con computer.In ogni caso ottimo!
