Good novelty gift.
The book/case is a nice novelty. The board is flimsy and the pieces are tiny. You can fit them all in one hand. Plenty of room left in the box for bigger pieces or a rule book.

All the same size and color with the rest if the vintage games
I loved the wood drama goes well with other board games on my book shelf. Pieces are kinda small but very convienent when kids don't look in the book shelf for games.

All-in-all good
Good price. Looks nice on the shelf. I wish the pieces were a little larger, but, still, all-in-all good.

A little expensive compared to the bigger vintage board games we have purchased before
Excellent vintage look to go with our other vintage book board games

Nice box but the game is terribly designed
Looks really nice... but two major problems:1) The board is way smaller than it needs to be. I own about 15 bookshelf games. Other manufacturers have been able to use quad fold boards to include full-size boards like Monopoly and Risk. But this miniature chess board is disappointing. The miniature pieces have virtually no weight to them and are poorly shaped. This was poor designing as there is plenty of space in the unit that is just wasted.2) The board is wrong. "White on the right!", as any chess player will tell you. When you are facing the board, the square closest to you furthest right should be white. But this board is designed such that the bend in the board must be along the files between d and e in order to place the board in this correct orientation. Usually, foldable boards split at the ranks between 4 and 5. This makes much more sense when consider that often you might be playing on a softer surface. The way this board is designed is cumbersome and awkward to use on soft surfaces like a couch or a bed. And even on a hard surface it just "feels" wrong. It's a nice wooden box. But the game is terribly designed.

Space saving.
Cool set. Make a neat gift. Love these space saving sets. Chess is a great thing to teach your children.

Not designed for children
I bought this chess set for my grandson. I loved the concept of being in a case that looked like a book. I thought it was unique and could be something kept for a long time. If this was from a local store, I would have returned it. Once it arrived, I was shocked on how small the chess pieces are. The king is only about 1 1/2 inches tall. So, now you can image how small the rest of the pieces are. This is not appropriate for a child or really any serious chess player. The storage area for the pieces is just a small area where you put a ziplock bag to store pieces. Only great thing about this is the look of the case. Don't waste your money. Look for a different one.
