MaxiAids Solar Shields - Amber, 6X2X2

I bought two pairs of amber solar shields, but I was sent one amber and one gray. I am happy with the amber, but do not like the gray. I am a semi retired optometrist. I have been an optometrist for almost 48 years. When I had in practice, I sold amber solar shields in my practice. The reason I sold amber instead of gray, because it reduces more of the blue, which is the energetic of the visual spectrum. By reducing the blue end of the spectrum, you also reduce chromatic aberration. This will increase contrast and reduce glare.I have written papers on Vision and Computers and Industrial Vision. I have lectured at the World Bank and other venues on these subjects. I have designed ophthalmic lenses, computer furniture. .

I really love these sunglasses because they completely block blue, and give the world a wonderful, almost unreal, appearance. A sky with clouds is striking--the clouds stand out starkly from the darkened sky. Colors will (naturally) look very different--some washed out, some deeper. My wife doesn't like them, but I REALLY do. They also function like sun glasses, but they do so much more.For whatever it's worth, if blue-blocking glasses are used in the house as night approaches, they'll apparently make it easier to sleep, by counteracting the "wake-up" effects of blue light which comes from fluorescent bulbs, smart-phones and computer screens.

Nice small frame fits women nicely. Even though they came packed in a storage bag, the lenses were scratched. The amber is okay for a cloudy day, but would probably be too bright on a sunlit day. I needed the UV protection, but will shop for a product which is also polarized and suitable for bright days.

I purchased these fit-overs for trap shooting and fly fishing. They are a bit dark for fishing, that's why they only got 4 stars. For trap shooting and driving they are very good, I am a big man with a large face and these glasses fit very well. Overall, I am very pleased with these glasses.

The color of the picture is not the same as the actual color of these sunglasses. I have bought Solar Shield Amber sunglasses before but these are much more orange than the traditional Amber color sunglasses. They let too much light in and filter out almost all color except for dark greens. The result is a painfully bright orange color that is not pleasing or relaxing. Even the blue sky looks orange. I imagine that some people might like this but it was too bright and orangey for me.

I have had a few pairs of these because they fit right over my glasses perfectly. Needing glasses for distance and reading, it was always cumbersome to take off the regular glasses, look for the prescription sunglasses. Take them off and look for the bifocals. These are great.

I love Solar Shield glasses, but the color pictured is a smoky brown, representing the color Amber. Amber is actually an extreme orange and I can only wear them on a dark overcast day.
