Saint Louis

Very well researched!
I am so grateful that this book was translated from French. I wish they had a subtitled version of the black and white film too...The author clearly spent many years researching this Saint. It is a very long read; however, I really enjoyed learning about the history behind Saint King Louis IX. I especially appreciate the information in the second half of the book, about what kind of man he was among those he was closest too. There are far too few books on Saints who were lay persons.

Fair treatment of Saint Louis IX, but omits Crusade
A huge part of Saint Louis' life and his mark on history was his participation in the Seventh Crusade. It's not until page 134 that the reader learns that Jacques LeGoff is not going to recount this fascinating part of history. See the picture I attached.Otherwise, this is a good translation, good printing, and the author treats Louis with respect so far, although I have not yet finished the 735 pages. I'll update this review when I do.

There is no better book on the subject
The definitive biography. There is no better book on the subject. Absolutely engrossing study of the 13th century in France and the flowering of the Middle Ages.
