A pain in the butt to install, but worth the effort
I had a slow leak coming from my ice maker. I "knew" it was a soleniod problem, but chose to try lowering the valve pressure. Of couse this didn't help, and I kept dealing with huge blocks of ice in the ice maker, and a waterfall of ice down the back of the freezer. I blew that off too. Eventually, the ice mass in the ice bucket froze to the auger, and when someone asked for ice it broke the auger. Yes, I turned a one part job into a two part job...Came here and orderd soleniod and auger. Soleniod is a quick install (like 10 minutes - more if your wife wants to clean under the fridge) and I was back in business there. Auger took a lot longer, but now I have ice and no drip problems. I went with the legit part and not a knockoff becuase I have tried knockoff parts on other repairs and it tends to be hit or miss (cheap parts sometimes break sooner). If your bothing to do the work and save the labor cost, may as well go with good parts. This auger takes a beating, so you want something that will hold up (or you will find bits of broken platic in your drink - like I did with the old one.

Perfect fit and works perfectly
Professionally installed; installer made it look easy, but admitted that this wasn't the first one he had installed. It was cheaper to purchase the part myself than to have the installer purchase it for me. It is identical to the one that broke, so hopefully it will last as least as long as the previous one (15 years). The plastic fins on the auger broke.

Perfect replacement for our GE fridge
So far so good! This ice maker auger was fairly simple to replace while watching a YouTube video to see step by step what to do. So far it's working well.

Great Fit, Fairly Easy Installation
So, like others, ours lasted a few years and broke (plastic pieces coming off). We let this go longer than we should have, not realizing how fragile it became after the first break and almost ingested plastic in a frozen drink recently. We ordered this and it came several days early. :-) Using a YouTube video the change out took about 45 minutes to an hour. You need a Phillips screwdriver, small flathead, and a pair of channel locks or large pliars. Be very careful with the alignment and sequencing of the crushed ice blades and spacers as that part is tricky. Other than that it was pretty straightforward. Knowing how fun this would be (and being opposed to plastic consumption) we opted to spend a little more on the OEM unit.

Right size for my GE ice maker
I looked at several options for a replacement auger for our GE refrigerator/freezer ice maker, and this one seemed to have the least number of complaints related to it being an incorrect size. I got mine through Amazon Warehouse, so it came repackaged (I couldn't see any GE branding, or any branding at all, on the part itself. Nonetheless, it works like a charm. Thankfully, I had found a video online that detailed installation step-by-step; it was about a 15 minute fix. My wife was especially happy to learn that a $25 part was able to solve our dysfunctional ice maker and that we didn't need to further discuss the possibility of replacing the entire ice maker or the entire refrigerator/freezer.

Not sure how long this one will last
Watched a youtube video and was able to get it installed fairly easy on a GE fridge. Remember that you can slow youtube videos down if you have trouble. Also, take pictures of your system as you go through the uninstall - especially before taking the auger assembly apart. Ice dispenser works again like it should. The build quality of this one seems to be the same as OEM. That doesn't say much though, as you'd think they'd use a sturdier plastic in the construction of the auger part. I'm happy that it did the job. I hope that it will continue to do the job longer than it's predecessor, which cracked and dropped a chunk of plastic into my water cup.

Genuine GE part
Took about 30 minutes for me and my neighbor to install it. I think it actually works better than the original one.
