Killer First Guitar....for Beginners and Experts too.
Well, here I sit with sore fingers after yet another session with this beauty. This is a fantastic guitar at a great price. It looks great, and the thinline body makes it easy to get to the strings...it's just closer to your body. The stock strings are decent, but I put some D'Addario EJ17 (medium gauge) on the guitar and it sounds amazing. Strings make a heyooge difference. I invested in a Super Snark electronic tuner and it's an easy and fun way to get a guitar in-tune quickly. I went down to .012 D'Addario Phosphor Bronze strings and this thing really sings with these strings. I tried 80/20 (that's 80% percent Bronze to Zinc) and I thought the guitar was too bright with these.Because of the woods used; Nato wood for the body (a less-expensive Eastern Mahogany) with Spruce top and Rosewood fingerboard, the guitar projects very well...surprisingly so. It's not a full Dreadnought body, but it plays almost like one to my ears...and I'm a big fan of that Martin sound. I also compared this to a Simon and Patrick Woodland Spruce, and it holds up well. It's amazing that they avoided laminate in a guitar this inexpensive, assuming the Nato body isn't laminate. The action is pretty good, and the strings aren't overly far from the neck, though some people have shaved down the bridge for a little easier action. Any good luthier can set this guitar up for you, or if you're the daring type you can do this yourself. Some have mentioned improving the pickup with a EQ 505R Pickup, which I may very well do myself.I haven't tried the guitar in an amp yet, but acoustic amps are expensive! So far I like the Fishman Loudbox Artist, since it has real control over guitar and mic (in the same amp) and has a headphone jack. Yes. Headphone jack! This is a must when you live in an apartment or as I do, a townhome with shared walls. This is an amazing value. I'm just a casual beginner guitarist getting back to guitar after decades playing other instruments. This guitar is gorgeous in appearance and it's quite easy to play, even for people with smaller hands like me. My guitar playing has really improved....and it's all because this instrument was both affordable and great quality that my interest in guitar-playing (and skill) has reached a new level. I'd happily buy another one if something happened to this one, and can heartily recommend it.5 Stars!

Wonderful Surprise
Just to qualify, I have played guitar for almost 40 years and am an advanced player. I have lots of expensive guitars and, in fact, that's the very reason I bought this - it was inexpensive and something I could take on the go without having to worry about it being broken, stolen, scratched, or whatever. Plus, it had a pickup. All the reviews seemed fairly positive and I knew I could make adjustments, even major ones if necessary, as I have done much guitar repair in the past. So I got it while it was on sale.I received it today in good condition and was very impressed with the quality and workmanship. I tuned it up and played right away. The playability is excellent. It's good for any price, but it's ESPECIALLY good for the price paid. No adjustments are really necessary (although I may lower the saddle just a bit to suit my style.) The intonation is excellent (very important for beginning guitar players learning.) The tuners are very smooth. The neck feels substantial but not too fat.Probably strong, which will make it durable and lasting. The pickup works well enough ( I haven't done any recording yet with it, but I probably will.)Man, what I wouldn't have done to have a guitar like this when I was learning! "Beginning" guitars were generally horrible back then, but this one is quite the opposite. No, it isn't fancy wood, but it's wood, and the thing plays very nicely. At the sale price (79.00 for me) I recommend this purchase for any beginner (or someone like me who wants a "camping" guitar. I can't even believe the price for what it is. At retail (~300.00,) it would be "OK," but there may be some other beginning guitars that may have a richer sound (believe me, I have NO complaints about this instrument - I'm just trying to make a complete review as I see it.) But for the $80-150.00 range, this simply can't be beat. It's a steal. It came with a gig bag, a few picks, a 1/4" cable, and a neck adjustment tool (which I did not need as of yet.) Keep in mind, guitars are wood and some MAY need an adjustment. That's normal.I am very pleased.

Buyer Beware!!!
This guitar sounds terrible. The product I received is defective. The strings buzz moderate to bad, but a few are really bad or outright dead. At first I assumed the buzzing strings were because I was just learning to play and had no callouses built up on the fingertips. It did not occur to me that it could be a problem with the guitar. I also noticed that the strings would not stay in tune for long. The buzzing is in part a result of some frets that are not positioned at the correct height. There are also many frets sticking out enough to snag fingers when run along the sides of the neck, with several being very rough. Both sides of the neck are affected but they are much worse on the high E side. The top of the guitar around the bridge is sinking due to drying out and the bridge is starting to lift. I took the guitar for two evaluations. One by an independent store where I live and then a second by Long & McQuade (very reputable, 60+ locations across Canada). Both had the same conclusions - the quality of this guitar and the issues do not justify the cost of the necessary repairs as they well exceed the value of the guitar. They said the guitar was "too far gone" to re-humidify to correct the sinking top.No serial number could be found so there is no way to track when the guitar was made and how long it sat around drying out before being sold to me.This seller Grab the Sale has a 10 day return policy. As a new player I attributed the buzzing issues to just learning and not having callouses built up. By the time it became apparent there was something seriously wrong with this guitar, the return period had passed.R.W. Jameson guitars are distributed through MDW (Musician's Discount Warehouse). It was MDW's paperwork inside the guitar box that said to contact [email protected] if there were any problems with the guitar. I have had extensive contact with MDW. They say they have never heard of Grab the Sale and that GtS is not an authorized dealer for their products. MDW said they might be able to help me in some way if Grab the Sale could provide the bill of sale verifying that they purchased the guitar from MDW. I have no issue with Grab the Sale but they will not acknowledge my emails to help me out with this issue.MDW did offer to exchange the guitar, however the shipping costs to send it to them in the U.S. from Canada cost way too much. I would also have to pay for shipping the exchanged guitar back to me. And now we are talking about international shipping rates which will be much higher than the original order that was shipped within Canada via Canada Post. With that kind of cost adding up I could have saved myself all the aggravation and just bought a better guitar locally. I don't feel I should have to pay any more for the product I should have received to begin with.I can't find contact info for R.W. Jameson Company to let them know directly about the problems with this guitar. So right now I own $255.00 worth of firewood. If it were possible to give ZERO stars for this guitar, I would.
