Anti-capitalism Rant
The author is a good story teller, but intersperses her writing with contrived rants against western culture. Whether mistakes in the translation to English or in the conversion to digital format, there are too many grammatical errors. Sexual encounters and sporadic use of the "F" bomb were awkwardly forced and detracted from the flow of her writing. One hopes the Swedish language edition makes more sense. Not recommended.

An excellent series!
Recommended to anyone who enjoys Scandinavian thrillers; look for all of Marklund's books and read from her first in this series. Bengktzon is a strong woman who deals fiercely with every aspect of her unusual life in Sweden. I am eagerly looking forward to her next book.

A great read!
This was another great story that also educates. It was a lesson about the how and why of abduction for ransom. It provided a little East African history. ...and a reminder of how blessed we are for not being borne there. I wonder if there is anything we can do about it. We can't seem to be able to do much good in that region of the world.

This Annika Bengston thriller is one of her best, competing even with "The Bomber
Liza Marklund is not losing it. This Annika Bengston thriller is one of her best, competing even with "The Bomber." Marklund more than holds her own among the splendid lot of Scandinavian crime writers.

It is fun to see the trouble Annika gets into and out ...
I'm a fan of this series and always look forward to the next. Lead character and plot top notch. It is fun to see the trouble Annika gets into and out of.I also find Nordic/Scandinavian mystery writers embed their stories in important socio-economic issues which creates a richer context.

Inhumane, abusive treatment of featured characters.
I've read all of the translated books in the Annika Bengzton series thus far. This one is slow moving and contains inhumane, abusive treatment of featured characters. Reading it upset me emotionally. In fact, I quit reading it. I found no redeeming qualities in the book. There's enough inhumanity in our real world today. I don't want to read more that has been conjured up. I prefer to read more uplifting material. I can't imagine how the author kept herself emotionally stable while researching the material and then creating events duplicating the actions of deplorable headline-making persons and groups. She's a good writer but this is the last of her books that I plan to read.
