3/7 dice had noticeable flaws; multiple on d20
I’ll start this off on a good note. On the upside, I did receive actual Chessex Scarab dice and not generic blue pearl, which is luckier than some of the other reviews on here. Furthermore, the d10/d% are actually somewhat close to (or even better than) the product pictures in terms of color variation. The 4 total unblemished pieces in the set (d6, d10, d%, d12) are great!Onto the not-so-great. On the least grievous end of this scale, the dice are significantly more monotone than the pictures may lead you to believe (in most cases). Like I said above, 2/7 were great, nice dark tones and purples with the blue, the works... but the rest might as well have been slightly fancier generic blue pearl. I put a flashlight to them and there *is* a purple base with the blue pigment, but there’s so much blue pigment that it drowns out the rest of it. That kind of thing is hard to control so I’m not too upset about it, I just thought I’d give this as a warning to any potential buyers - if you’re looking for significant color variation, this set’s a gamble.Next is my *actual* complaint - the condition my dice arrived in. 4/7 of the set were fine, but 3/7 (d4, d8, and saddest of all the d20) had noticeable flaws on one or more edges. The d4 is the least noticeable - what sucks is that it has almost as good color variation as the two best dice in my set, but the edge with all the red in it is the one with damage, so it just draws attention to itself. The damaged edge on the d8 is so bad it looks like there are layers of resin peeling away, sort of like chipped nail polish. Finally, the d20 has three separate chipped edges, one being almost as bad as the d8 and right by the 20 face.TL;DR - got the right dice (yay!) and it’s not the worst set I’ve seen, but the quality control here is... pretty bad. That, or these are used/have been banged around a lot in storage before they were sent off. I don’t know whether to recommend you buy from elsewhere or simply get another set. Either way, just be aware that you’re not really guaranteed your money’s worth on this one.

Nice product, but not the dice I ordered.
The dice I received were the "Borealis - Sky Blue w/White". The sticker on the side of the plastic Chessex box said "Scarab - Royal Blue w/ Gold", but the paper insert within the box said they were the "Borealis" version. Please note: If the outer label is affixed by Chessex then I can place no blame in this individual vendor. But, what I got was a set of dice that were quite unlike the dice depicted here in this product description--- these dice were light blue, translucent with white glitter and bright white numbers.I was pretty disappointed, initially. Particularly as I had simultaneously ordered a "Scarab - Blood Red w/ Gold" set that looked so amazing. The "Scarab" set heightened the extreme girliness of the "Borealis" set. I considered returning them, but even with free shipping, the cost and hassle of going to the post office (with the little free time I have) wasn't worth the nine dollar loss. Time better spent than in line at the post office?--- Yes, I went to the local game store to look for the "Royal Blue Scarabs" I had wanted. They were obviously a little more expensive than Amazon prices. I paid about 12 dollars for the set, with no plastic box.In reference to the "Borealis" set: I actually enjoy having them. In the duo-style game we have each been playing, we each control two characters at once. I use one set for each character, so the error in the order actually worked out for me. The dice themselves, despite being an unintended version, are of good quality and mystically pretty in their own way. The numbers are vivid white, and very easy to read.In reference to the "Scarab - Royal Blue w/ Gold" dice (you *should* be getting if you order from this page): They are deep blue and metallic stone-like. The numbers are harder to read than some (like the Borealis version I received) but they are still legible, and the look they impart on the dice is quite beautiful.

Very Beautiful Dice! I'm Pleased.
I must say, I've just started playing role-playing games. I'm not so much into Dungeons and Dragons but I love playing Call Of Cthulhu with a close group of friends whenever college school work slows down. The group never had any dice (we used online dice rollers) until our Keeper surprised us by buying us our own dice as a welcome back to school gift. It was VERY kind of her. I fell in love with my dice instantly. Now I'm almost addicted to collecting dice. :-) These Royal Blue with Gold, Scarab Dice Set appealed to me. They arrived right on time and shipped within 1 day. They are very beautiful. The swirls and metallic-silver colored hues are visually appealing. The dice are a dark blue but when they catch light at certain points some purple colors illuminate too. The gold numbering is a nice touch. I can't wait to play with them. Unfortunately, the only reason I'm giving the set I received 4 stars is because my d6 had some blemishes on it and one of my d10s (numbering for 100) had a small blemish on it too. It shouldn't affect the overall performance of the dice, it was just one of those things I noticed. Perhaps I'm being a little too type-A, but that's just me. Overall, these dice are beautiful, and as the name implies, they really are fit for a king. I'd recommend these dice for anyone. I can't take my eyes off of them. They're worth getting. I will probably think about investing in those Steam-Punk designed polyhedral dice. ;-) I thank anyone who took the time to read my review. :-)
