Size:150 ft Product Description The Guardian Fall Protection Poly Steel Rope is ideal for high-moisture environments. Nylon rope, when wet, will typically reduce in strength by between 10% to 15%, but unlike Nylon, Poly Steel Rope does not absorb water, so will not diminish in strength in wet conditions. This rope is also particularly strong when it comes to resisting damage from ultraviolet light, and its synthetic composition makes it especially resistant to cuts and abrasion, thereby increasing equipment lifetime. Poly Steel is ten times stronger than Polypropylene, and while it may become fibrous, this is just a result of normal wear, and does not indicate it needs to be replaced. It is 5/8 inches thick, and is available with a variety of component configurations, including a shock absorber, positioning device, 18 inch extension lanyard, and 2 double-locking snap hooks. From the Manufacturer The Guardian Fall Protection “ Poly Steel Rope” is exclusive to Guardian. It is ideal for environments that are found to be damp or wet. Nylon rope, when wet, will become 10% to 15% weaker than dry ropes. While the strength does return when nylon rope dries out, the Poly Steel will hold up better overall in these types of environments as they do not absorb water. Poly Steel is particularly strong when it comes to ultraviolet light damage. Its synthetic makeup gives the rope excellent abrasion resistant characteristics resulting in a longer life. Poly Steel is ten times stronger than Polypropylene. While the rope will become fibrous, this does not mean it needs to be replaced. This is a result of normal everyday wear. This heavy duty 5/8 inch thick poly rope resists cuts and abrasions and possesses an attached self locking carabineer. The complete assembly includes: shock absorber, positioning device, 18 inch extension lanyard and two double locking snap hooks. No tangle lifeline available with swivel snap hook.

Works well - would buy again
I have used this mostly for work positioning and fall restraint on a metal roof that is steep enough that you just can't walk around on safely. Also have used on shingled roofs working close to edges. I'm not a fan of heights anymore and being restrained or being able to position myself feels really good using the side D rings on my harness. The rope grab works OK. It is a manual grab so you have to loosen and slide it up or down the rope as you move for work positioning. The clips seem to be good quality and can be worked with gloves on.If I needed the combination again (ie: lifeline assembly) I wouldn't hesitate to buy again.Think about how much rope you actually need also. When I clip on at the peak the rope (50 ft) for my roofs is a little long. However there have been times when I have had to clip on to something sturdy on the other side of the roof (no roof anchors) and glad I had the extra length.Compared to one trip to an emergency room this is really cheap insurance.

Works great for me!
I’ve used it a few times to go on my super steep roof, works great so far. It seems well manufactured. The piece you use to adjust your length is easy to use. I feel comfortable that if I loose my footing or grip, along with my harness, this will keep me from rolling off the side. I use it on my 3 story roof.Of note, I have anchors installed on my roof so I can clip into them. I don’t use this by wrapping it around something or clipping it on anything else. The hook used to snap onto the anchor I can operate with one hand if need be, for example I’m using the other hand to brace myself on the roof for safety.

18" Lanyard is too short
I'm building a two house and wanted some good fall protection. After doing some research, I purchased this item, a roof bracket and a Guardian Fall Protection 21031 Cyclone Construction Harness, size XL. The harness has 3 attachment points; one at each hip and one in the back. I'd prefer to use the back one, however, the lanyard is not long enough. I looked at purchasing a lanyard that I could leave attached to the harness back clip and then clip into the positioning devise. All the lanyards I'm finding have a built in shock absorber...double shock absorbers is not something I'm willing to try.

Confidence
Loved it. I never took a fall on it, but it sure gave me a sense of confidence in working on a roof. Actually used some webbing and bypassed the shock protection just because I wanted to use it to hold me and place on a very steep roof where I wasn't going to take a fall but I sure didn't want the shock system to start unraveling and then pitch me over the edge.

Grab doesn't move easily on the line and you need 2 hands to ...
Decent lifeline. The grab mechanism locks on the line so you feel more secure than the alternative fall activated ones. Grab doesn't move easily on the line and you need 2 hands to position it. The braided line does look like it will fray over time due to movement of the grab. Hooks are solid and work well.

Felt secure
Had some roof work to do with a 12:12 pitch. This made me feel more comfortable running around up there.

It is suitable as a rope to be used several times.
This fall protection rope doesn't seem to be a very long lasting rope. The structure of the rope is not dense and looks a little loose. The rest of the rope grabs or other steel parts seem fine. For those who do roof work professionally, it would be better to use a rope for mountain climbing or high place work. This product is a material that cannot withstand friction or UV rays for a long time.

Better Safe than Gravely Sorry!
I've used this "lifeline" several times while servicing my roof (~30ft high) with a 7/12 pitch. All it takes is a simple slip on loose shingle granuals or improper footing to cause a fall. Call me a wimp for using the ABC's of fall protection, but it is better to be safe and secure while working on a roof. Some professional roofers would not seen with such safety gear, because they are on a schedule and safety cuts into the bottom line--so it is overlooked. As a homeowner performing roofing work, there is no excuse for sacrificing safety. Sure, a professional can be called in, but that view is not followed by all inquisitive DIY homeowners. The product came as shown: 100 ft lifeline, snap hook with shock absorber, and positioning lanyard.
