Good but not great?
I read this book in its entirety in one day. The story was interesting, the characters were likable, the setting realistic, it was pretty action packed and it moved pretty quick. My issue is that I knew who the “bad guy” was from pretty much the moment he was introduced... it was just pretty obvious, which left no surprise and no excitement for the climax of this book. Then my other issue was the relationships between Georgie, Roman and Seth. The relationship with Roman goes serious pretty quick, he was pushy, and she was so attracted to him, but didn’t want a relationship. Then we get barely any development with Seth, but all of a sudden he is in love with her (purely, deeply) and now Georgie is going from one relationship to the other. It just did not lend any credibility to the situation or let you enjoy the development. Also add in she can’t be with a mortal without killing him and I just don’t think I will pick up the next book and subject myself to that agony until it all gets resolved 6 books later.

4.5 Stars
Rating: 4.5 Stars So we all know Richelle Mead is an auto-buy author for me because I LOVED Vampire Academy series, Rose & Dimitri forever, and I enjoyed the spin-off Bloodlines. For her adult books I enjoyed the Dark Swan series and finally got all of these on my shelf at a good price waiting for me to dive into them. My hold up I think was more that when I first got them I had just finished a Lost Girl marathon and didn’t want to read them on top of that. Lost Girl is focused on a succubus if you didn’t know. So then at the start of 2017 I decided it was time to start this series and I had the audiobook for Succubus Blues and figured it was a great time to start. It had also been long enough since I heard about these books the only thing I knew about the book/series was that it focused on Georgina Kincaid a succubus. That’s it. Going in blind was all kinds of fun I admit. We follow Georgina, a succubus who isn’t in love with the job. She can have anything or any man she wants but the problem is the men usually end up paying for it with their soul. Kind of puts a damper on real romance. Her day job is at a local bookstore which feeds her love of books and coffee, so from the start I loved her. Her night job is more about feeding her needs and working for the demon underground. When her day job puts her in close proximity to her favorite author, Seth Mortensen, who happens to be sexy as hell things get interesting. I really enjoyed the story. I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed how quick it seemed to go by. I think it took only a couple nights listening for a bit before bed and I was finished. I know it’s the start of 2018 and I’m talking about a book I listened to at the start of the previous year, why the delay. Well the downside is that I enjoyed listening to the story so much and hearing Georgina’s quippy one-liners and such that I think I want to listen to the rest of the series. So it took the year to convince myself I just had to splurge on them, waiting for a sale was taking too long. I thought it had been too long to post but I realized as I started book two that I was instantly back into this world and I did a quick skim of book one I plan to finish this series in 2018. I am really enjoying this dynamic between Georgina and Seth and the balance between who she is as a person vs. what she has to do to stay alive. The balance between being a good person when your job is to corrupt men’s souls to hell. But the characters were all fun to read and it was a fresh take that was quick and entertaining. There is action, humor, sexy times (duh she’s a succubus), character development, and a real story at play. I am really enjoying this series by Mead, though I’m not surprised as she is an auto-buy author for me. I’ll share my thoughts on this series as I go.

Love this series
I don't think this series gets enough recognition! I absolutely loved every book! It was beautifully written while also remaining casual, fun and humorous. Richelle Mead is an excellent writer and I'm genuinely surprised a lot of people don't know about this sexy, fun and hilarious series. It has heart, friendship, love and lots and lots of steam! You won't regret giving it a try. I was lucky enough to know about Richelle Mead from my husband who loved her Vampire Academy series. I also knew about the series because I'm a librarian. I needed something to love as much as Sarah J. Maas's A Court of Thorns and Roses series. This series helped fill that void. Thank you, Richelle Mead!

Count me as a new fan!
I got the second book from this series at the library and enjoyed it so much that I went back to pick up book one and enjoyed it thoroughly too! It's a great introduction to the worldbuilding and characters that will make up the series. As an urban fantasy series it has a main character, the succubus heroine Georgina who is really the star of the show and there is a romance with Seth, an author whose books she loves, but it seems clear that they will have some ups and downs over the series. The writing is witty, lots of banter and one liners, and even though Georgina is supposed to be evil, she has a good heart that comes through time and again. Her best friends Cody, a newly made apprentice vampire, Peter his neurotic vampire mentor and Hugh, an imp whose job is making contracts with humans to sell their souls to hell are her found family - in a world of immortals and especially among the minions of hell, it's hard to trust anyone but these 4 are a solid crew. With her day job at a bookstore and her life a mixture of normal human stuff combined with immortal shenanigans, Georgina has her hands full and I can't wait to see where the series takes her!

fabulous
Georgina Kincaid is a reluctant, but outstandingly good at her job, Succubus, she feeds on men claiming pieces of their souls for her “team”, but she longs for the love that she has been denied her for centuries.Hugh is an Imp who negotiates for your soul should you have a desire to swap it for something, but he is also one of her best friends, along with Cody and Peter her friendly local, and very gay, vampire buddies.During the day Georgina must earn a living and works as a deputy manager and the local books store, with her human friend Doug, and Warren her human boss who is good for a quick energy fix from time to time, apparently he lost his soul years ago. When Duanne, the obnoxious vampire, gets murdered its Georgina that is main suspect, especially to her Demon boss Jerome; Arch Demon of Seattle, who just happens to hang out all the time with Carter the cryptic Angel. Not your usual pairing, especially as Jerome looks exactly like a certain movie style whilst Carter seems to like the grunge scene a little too much.Throughout the story we are told snippets of her former human life, and given peeks into her previous bodies, names and places she lived.Enter Seth Morgansteen, local author who just happens to be Georgina's favourite, not to mention he is doing a book signing in her store. Seth was not the sort of guy I would have thought the energetic Georgina would fall for but when you start to see her history and the reason she sold her soul in the first place you can see why Seth and his delicate, artistic nature, call to her.On the flip side, and not so much in the background is Roman, an enigmatic character who suits Georgians love of life, dancing and danger.Back to the super naturals killings and the race is on to find who or what is doing it, why and stop them. Can Georgina do it? When the final showdown happens its electric but the deal our lost little succubus has to make is heart breaking.I totally loved the start of this 6 book series, the plot was fantastic, full of twists, turns and mystery. All the characters were strong, some were down to earth and likeable and some were dark and mysterious, humour, sex and horror the perfect combination. I cannot wait to read what happens next in Georgina's life.

Very enjoyable
I was pleasantly surprised by this book, which is the first in the series; and is far superior than the title and cover suggest. The story revolves around Georgina Kincaid -- a succubus living in modern day Seattle. Her job is to have sex with human men which allows her to steal their life-force which maintains her shape-shifting ability, as well as this having sex with men corrupts their immortal souls which furthers 'Hells Great Scheme of Evil'.As a human she sold her soul to an imp thousands of years ago in exchange for a favour, something one learns through flashbacks. These were quite well placed and interesting. Georgina is a compelling character and one who isn't particularly stupid; which is always a refreshing change! I liked her voice and found her to be written quite realistically for someone so old. The story arc is well balanced even though the mystery is a little obvious... the author having an MA in comparative religion shows through in the work and helps to elevate the material somewhat.'Succubus Blues' is humourous and quite simply written. Indeed, sometimes I felt that it was a bit limited in the writing department -- in that I didn't always feel like I knew what Georgina was feeling about certain people or situations outside of her romantic ones. The dialogue was clever, however and despite the lack of emotional description the characters were written very differently and I got a good sense of their personality just through the bare dialogue.Along side Georgina there are a whole host of colourful characters running around her world. At the top there's her boss; an archdemon who's obsessed with John Cusack, so much so he's chosen to look like him and rather oddly his BFF drinking buddy is a sarcastic chain-smoking angel named Carter. I loved Carter and found him interesting. Then there's Georgina's vampire friends (Cody and Peter), an Imp named Hugh, and her human buddies like the charming Doug and drippy Seth -- I'm not keen on Seth but his measured presence here was better than in the later books where he's in them far too much. I think one of the reasons I'm not keen on Seth is that he reminds me far too much of Nick from Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan books. In my opinion, this book is the best so far in the series as it balances the romance, the supernatural mysteries and the supernatural politics with the more normal human stuff better than the others (which turn into romance novels with supernatural padding). The best thing about these books are Georgina's friends -- yet they get pushed to the sidelines of the stories in future books. Here the book reads much more like an urban fantasy but it kind of morphs into a paranormal romance in later books, sadly.

Pretty good, may it continue!
Having read and enjoyed Richelle Mead's other books, (Vampire Academy and Black Swan series)I felt that I had to give the Succubus series a go.Mead's writing style is appealing, her characters are attractive, witty and flawed enough to be genuine. I liked Georgina even though her flitting between the male characters was midly annoying. The idea of a hellish succubus as a lead character is interesting, especially as Georgina is not what I expected. Seth is a lovely character, preferring to communicate through writing rather than speech, shy but endearing.Like others have said, the revelation of some character's identities is fairly obvious but that doesn't necessarily mean that the book is flawed as you then have the irony of knowing what the other characters do not.Good characterisation and interesting subject matter was what made this book enjoyable for me, felt that the plot was lost a little in all the scene setting and character building but I loved those bits and in a series of six books this was a good start. Hope the books continue on with the same style but perhaps a bit more excitement to the plot please.

It is the imperfection that makes love perfect
I thoroughly enjoyed escaping into Mead's Seattle-based fantasy world. The characters were interesting and the story gripped me to the end. I did find Roman a bit weird and stalkery and couldn't quite understand the attraction, similarly I wasn't wholly convinced by the Seth attraction but each to their own and I guess, in the words of Carter (who was my favourite character by the way!), "Love is rarely flawless. Humans delude themselves by thinking it has to be. It is the imperfection that makes love perfect.”

Slick urban-fantasy novels
Brilliant urban fantasy novels! I had no idea what a succubus was until I started reading these. Georgina lives in Seattle, is immortal (demon) , works in a bookstore and has a very dull life. Well OK, she has another job which is to tempt men to sin/ have sex (which is where the fun starts) so that she can re-charge her magical powers and is part of her contract.with Hell. But she' ain't evil, she's just baaaad with a glimmer of conscience... especially when she unexpectedly falls in love with a geeky, jumper-wearing novelist. Full of fun, I had to read the whole series back to back.
