Meanwhile Back at the Ranch (Reading Rainbow)

This book is so funny, I loved it as a kid. I got it for my children and read it again for the first time in many years. It did not disappoint!

My oldest son was about four when this book was published in the 1980’s. I bought it for him and we wore it out from so many readings. His absolute favorite. Then his little brother came along, and we began again in many, many more readings. Younger son loved it just as much. Now that they are 30-something grown men, I gave a new copy to them for their little ones. Best. Book. Ever.

I remember Levar Burton on The Reading Rainbow telling us about this book years ago. I’ve always loved the book and over the years occasionally I’ll say “Meanwhile back at the ranch”… whenever there’s a change in the plot of a movie, or they show another totally different location. For some reason I feel the need to say this phrase and bless my family they still love me. I absolutely adore the illustrations and I really believe this book is best read out loud to people to fully enjoy all the nuances.

I was so happy to find this book for my grandson. We use to read it to our daughter, and it was a favorite of hers. Now we can read it to her son. This is a cute, fun, silly book and a joy to read.

This book is so funny! I read it to 3rd graders, who loved the irony of the dull, boring existence and then, meanwhile, back at the ranch...exciting things were going on! Highly recommend.

We gave this book to our grandson who is obsessed with our ranch. He enjoys anything to do with tractors and cows. This book was perfect!

Bought for its title which it lives up to. Grown ups and children both love it and want it read over and over again.
