The House of Staunton Indian Rosewood & Maple Wooden Chess Board - 2.25" with Notation & Logo

For the money, this is an excellent board. The squares are 2.25" and large enough for chess pieces with 4" kings. Plenty of room on the squares and a nice big board. It has a perfect matte finish, no distracting glare. Nice and smooth. The joinery is very good. All the lines are tight and clean. The wood grain is very attractive, the squares grain patterns are all in the same direction so it was well thought out and executed. My only gripe is the algebraic notation is painted on. It's a minor issue, but it's well done. If it wears poorly, you can always re-apply with appropriate stencil and paint. I suppose if the notation was actual wood inlay, it would have cost almost double because inlay work is not a cheap task, even with machines doing the work. In any case, it's a great board, I recommend it.

The quality of the materials and craftsmanship of this premium chessboard is immediately apparent. The fit and finish of each square is a marvel of precision. I bought this to display my heirloom set of Lewis Chessmen and this board matches the museum quality of the set. It is not foldable, constructed from a solid piece of wood with felt on each corner. The board surface is not glossy, but smooth. Quite large it is nearly 2 feet square and each square is 2-1/4 inches square. Perfect for a 3-1/4 inch tall king with a 2 inch base. Very pleased with the secure packaging, the board is flawless.

I have a few boards but this is my go to one.sturdy and with notation and the logo doesn’t bother me one bit I actually like it.

Beautiful, sturdy and seems to be high quality craftsmanship. Hoping this can be a family heirloom. Really good gift for chess players.
