Cursed (An Arthurian Retelling)

Amazing Story, Great Visual Imagry, Incredible Character Development
This was an outstanding book with just amazing writing, with great visual imagry, a great voice and incredible characters that just drew you into the story and kept the pages turning on their own. A definite page turner, as each chapter left you wanting more and more. I loved the style of the writing and the story was just great. The television adaptation was very well done, I saw it after I finished the book, and they didn't do a bad job, but the book is definitely worth reading, even if you watched the series. It is similar, but there are a few differences. But the writing is so great that you just want to read it to get your own visualization of the storyline. I would definitely recommend this book to fantasy lovers, or anyone into the Arthurian legend. It is a great back story to the lady of the lake. A must read for anyone who loves King Arthur stories.

Great book!!! Also Great Netflix Series
Loved the pictures and version of Merlin. I loved this book and excited to read another book. I HOPE there is another book to tell the tale of Nimue. I have also watched the Netflix Series of Cursed and was very good I am very disappointed that Netflix canceled the Series as I thought it was better than Game of Thrones and would love to see a happier ending. I hope Netflix reconsider renewing and I am awaiting for the sequel or another book on Merlin, Nimue, Arthur, Morgan, and sister Iris.

An Utterly Different take on the Arthurian tale
In “Cursed,” Thomas Wheeler boldly reimagines Arthurian legend. The story sidesteps King Arthur as the hero, focusing instead on the Fey, led by Nimue. The setting is a historically ambiguous landscape, post-Charlemagne, and more French than British. Nimue, traditionally the Lady of the Lake, emerges as a fierce Wolf-Blood Witch, wielding the menacing “Devil’s Tooth,” an alter ego to Excalibur, in a desperate fight to save the Fey people. Wheeler’s narrative might frustrate lovers of history, but it could appeal to those seeking a completely new perspective on a familiar myth.

Cursed is a great journey! Can’t wait for the series!!
I really liked the different takes on characters that are well known to those who are fans of Arthur, Merlin, The Knights of the Round Table, and of course, the sword Excalibur. Frank Miller’s illustrations are amazing as well. Great book. I recommend it to any familiar or not familiar with these characters. It’s a fun ride filled with action, love, and great characters.

Great Idea. Strong Start. Sloppy Ending.
Wheeler's revisiting of the 'Arthurian legend universe,' is anything but a tired retread of the usual stories. In Cursed he builds his narrative by starting with the magical creatures of British lore and then weaving in aspects of Arthurian legend, plus a healthy dash of 'Spanish Inquisition' church-iness.The result is fun and engaging and, unlike a lot of current fantasy, enables the reader to see the villains portrayed properly without being mired in gut wrenching gore & violence (although there is loping of heads a plenty). The plot moves quickly, visits numerous characters from the Arthurian legends, and gives you just enough detail to feel like you're in the moment without being bogged down by 1000s of pages of narrative. The only challenge? At about 2/3 through things start to feel really rushed. Like 400 pages was all Wheeler was allotted, and he's got 700 pages of thoughts. As a result, the ending is... meh.Overall though, it's solid. It's enough to keep you entertained for a weekend and not feel like you've got to spend the next 30 years of your life invested in things. It just isn't going to win any awards.

Need another
I hope you are thinking of doing another book that may add to this. I would love to see what happens next. Where Merlin went and does Nim survive.

Fantastic Adventure---New Twists on Merlin's Legends
I was pleasantly surprised at the author's retelling of the Arthurian epic tales focusing on a strong-willed girl, Nimue, and her quest to fulfill her mother's dying request against all odds. Set in post-Roman times in the fledgling British Isles before there was a single English King, this story builds on Celtic oral histories and legendary tales of Druids with several amazing illustrations adding context and imagery to the characters and story.Merlin, the centuries-old wizard plays a major role in the storyline as his frustrations with endless struggles of minor kingdoms led by bloodthirsty and corrupt kings vying for supreme control at the expense of common people and other human-like creatures. This vividly descriptive narrative is appropriate for 14+ teens and adults still filled with imagination and desires for impossible quests. It was fun to feel again the excitement and wonder of youth by experiencing this well-told mythical tale of courage and bravery against evil. This appears to be the first of several books, but it was also an okay standalone read. The story details gave life and believability to the plotline and the characters. Only a few minor anachronisms detracted from the activities, language, and historical setting. The Audible narration was enjoyable and energetic, bringing the storytelling to life.I plan reading other works by Thomas Wheeler.

Great book with bad drawings
I watched he Netflix show first and felt it was ok, so I bought the book with a grain of salt. But I really enjoyed the book! I think the book captured Nimue in a much more interesting way (think a cross of Arya Stark and Aelin). I really liked the authors writing style and I was very wrapped up in the stories and characters. I liked Merlin in that he was a drunk but he was also very clever and capable. The one complaint I have was the illustrations, Frank Miller's drawing style is not for me at all. I felt they did not match the feel of the book and they took me out of the story every time I was subjected to one. Currently there is no word on a sequel but I really look forward to reading more about these characters (especially the Weeping Monk and Squirrel storyline) and I can only hope we get a different illustrator.

Arthurian Legend fan
I love it. It arrived quite fast and in perfect condition. I did not think that it is this big (it‘s almost 30x20cm). Also I didn‘t know that there are illustrated pages. But I guess thats because I didn‘t check. As a fan of the Arthurian legend this book is perfect to me and i recommend it.
