Handsome shoes that are comfortable on long hikes
We go out hiking most weekends and holidays, usually walking between 15-20 miles over a variety of terrain. This requires strong shoes with a grippy sole and a waterproof lining in case the weather becomes inclement.Much of my hiking clothing is from Berghaus’ Goretex range so I was keen to try these shoes and see how they compared to my usual Adidas and Meindl walking shoes. My first impression out of the box was that they are very smart leather shoes. They almost look too handsome for hiking. It will be a pity to see them covered in mud and scratched from walking through brambles but this is an inevitable consequence of trekking through rough landscapes.I usually take a size 10 so was pleased to see that these fit exactly as expected. I tested the shoes with my Darn Tough Hiker 1/4 Socks. The shoes are very comfortable from first wear, with a good level of cushioning from the Ortholite footbed, which is particularly effective when walking on hard surfaces such as pavements. For trekking on uneven surfaces, their Vibram sole is one of the best around and provides plenty of grip.Compared to the Meindl approach shoes I bought last summer, these feel far more comfortable. I think this is mainly because the shoes have sufficient width for my feet whilst wearing cushioning hiking socks whereas the Meindl were too narrow in the forefoot area. The Berghaus shoes offer better cushioning than my Addidas Terrex GTX shoes, which makes them better for long distance walks. My Berghaus Goretex jackets have set the standard for breathable, waterproof hiking clothing for several decades. From my first impressions, these shoes look to be an excellent addition to my collection of Berghaus gear.

Excellent shoes
Had a previous pair that I used for a range of walking holidays and local walks over a period of 4 years. They are now relegated to garden/DIY shoes so I’ve invested in another pair. Quite expensive but very comfortable with good grip and waterproof; the size is very accurate.

Sturdy and comfortable .
My walking boots are Berghaus and are very good so thought I would try their walking shoes. They were comfortable straight from the box, I chose a half size bigger than my normal shoe size 9 1/2 instead of 9. Feel well made and should cope with stony tracks field trails. Early days yet but I feel confident that they will prove a good alternative to the full on boots when the terrain is less demanding.

Excelent shoes but inner heel liner wears out
I have had five pairs of these shoes now. They are very comfortable, breathable, waterproof and smart(ish) . Only problem is that the inner heel liner wears out long before the rest of the shoe. That being said, I walk my dog four times a day for a total of 7 - 9 miles in all weathers so can't complain too much. But it's a shame to throw away away otherwise serviceable shoes every five months or so.

Comfort from the first step
These are the second pair of Berghaus boots I have brought, with the first pair lasting a good 7 years of lots of walking.I was worried about having to break in a new pair to get that familiar comfort of my old boots but that was a worry not to have. These were comfortable from the first wear of a 4 mile trek over a coastal path. They have great grip and keep my feet completely dry in poor weather yet are breathable for warm weather walks too.I have no doubt I’ll get many years out of them as they are good quality and comfortable

My second pair of these excellent shoes
They were advertised as hard wearing and waterproof, also hinted at a wider fit. The first pair are lasting very well and I've never got my feet wet wearing them in all weather conditions. Not totally brilliant grip but otherwise perfect... Sadly now looking a tad old (circa 2 years) so I've bought another pair. Amazon very fast delivery for free. What's not to like? Happy Christmas & New Year!

Comfortable, an update after 6 months…but
Searched a long time for a comfortable walking shoe and these ones fit the bill. I’ve worn these now for 6 weeks walking on a mixture of hard and soft surfaces. I’ve always added a thin leather insole in all my shoes including these ones but really not needed as they are so comfortable. An update after 6 months, I walk approximately 5-6 mls per day, so I have walked about 1000mls, definitely signs of wear all round, the soles are rapidly wearing out but I will purchase another pair as comfort is important to me.Here’s another update, I intended to buy a further pair but the price has increased from £82 to £115-150, ridiculous prices, they’re good but NOT that good.

Lasted 2 years
Initially ok and water resistant but the inside of the shoes started to come apart at the heel after a few months. External surfaces now coming apart after 2 years, walking straight to the bin.
