Dealing with Diabetes Burnout

'Dealing with Diabetes Burnout' is a book which looks at diabetes burnout as a normal part of dealing with diabetes and explores ways in which to get out of that burnout 'funk' you may occasionally find yourself in. Ginger delves into how to dealing with burnout around food choices, blood sugars, and exercise. She also gives advice on how you can talk with family and friends about how to show their support. Throughout, she lets you know that you aren't a 'bad' diabetic for feeling burned out and validates the value of every good choice (no matter how small) made in relation to diabetes self-care.The only thing I would have liked to see more of was an in-depth look at why many teenagers and young adults go into a burnout that manifests itself as 'denial' of their condition, and how best to break free of that (it's something I personally struggled with for many years).Overall, a great book for helping anyone who might be feeling a bit lost, unmotivated, etc. with their diabetes self-care right now, anyone who has felt that way in the past, or anyone who may feel it in the future.........in short, ANY person with diabetes!

Great read for anybody struggling

As a type 1 diabetic for 33 years, it never gets easier managing daily life. Ginger's book makes me feel like I am not alone, offers support, and great resources for getting back on track after a struggle.

A "must read" book!

I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 4 years ago and it came as a total shock because I am slender & my blood sugars have always been completely normal. I have done a lot of reading about diabetes management because I am determined to learn as much as I can about this often very annoying condition. Ginger's book is absolutely incredible... Her knowledge about the emotional aspects of diabetes is so insightful and I saw so much of myself in almost every page of her book...In my ways, I would say that this book is a "must read" for people who want to learn, understand that emotions are part of being diabetic, but they don't need to overwhelm & control, and that it really is possible to reach a greater state of peace amidst the feelings of sadness & frustration that are so much a part of this disease.Thank you Ginger for writing this book!

LIFE SAVER

Every word of this book has helped me become a better person. Ginger is dead-on with her description of diabetes burnout. I didn't understand the challenge of burnout until I heard her very straightforward, light-hearted, and kind description.I wish that I was told that burnout was a thing. I could have been better equipped to handle it. This book helps you get through something that none of us should do alone.

Best Book for Real Life with Diabetes

Ginger Vieira's new book "Dealing with Diabetes Burnout: How to Recharge and Get Back on Track When You Feel Frustrated" is the most realistic book for people with diabetes who want to feel understood and learn tips to help them thrive. Not only do we have Ginger's brilliant words, but 25+ of my favorite diabetes advocates (and me) contributed our experiences. I am reading this book now and am loving it! Ginger is friendly and supportive, besides eminently knowledgeable. This is advice *every* person with diabetes needs at *any* point in their journey. Buy it for someone you know and feel free to buy one for yourself. This book is not only perfect for those with D, it's the perfect book for a non-D family member to read in order to understand what people with diabetes are feeling on a daily basis. Congrats Ginger!

She saved my life!

I was diagnosed at age 11 and hit burnout at age 16, of course no one knew what that was and I was called noncompliant. In my 20s I developed Diabulimia and it wasn't until my 41st birthday that I learned it wasn't my fault! I began searching for more help since there is not much in my area in terms of doctors and clinics and found this book. I have read it over and over, each time I feel burnout coming on and never have I relapsed back to diabulimia. I cannot recommend this book enough, and not just for diabetics. Family members and medical professionals should read this book and take it to heart.

EH.

Although there is a fair amount of humor here, I can't say that I really LIKE this book. I was hoping for something that would take me past the whole "I have the GOOD type of diabetes, if I just diet and exercise" and get me more into "Diabetes is crappy for everyone- here's how to get past it". This kinda fell short. I love the idea of the book, the humor that helps you realize that diabetes sucks no matter what you have, but it's lacking. This book didn't address the feelings that are associated with this disease, or if it did, not in a way that made me remember it. I was disappointed with this book, but I'm sure for other people this would be wonderful.

Glad I found it

I started off well on my new regimen, after I was diagnosed with diabetes. Then, I began to get down, as I realized this is basically how the rest of my life goes now. I saw some good recommendations on this book, and picked it up on a special. How you take it will vary by your personality -- I found it a little "rah-rah!" sometimes. But I'm glad I found it. I definitely helped me come to terms with some of the issues that were worrying me, and helped me realize that the only successful approaches have to be long-term strategies. If you're feeling a bit worn down and depressed by a diabetic lifestyle, I think it might help you too.

Fed up with the whole thing, but this book can help

For those who have had diabetes for a long time, this book can be a refreshing breath of air in dealing with the subject. Doctors and nurses have expectations of you , with the condition.Family and friends have similar expectations regarding your everyday life in dealing with it. For many people, being diabetic is like being a circus freak, on show and to be held up as an example of either being a good diabetic or bad one. You are simply a piece of meat that has to be treated.Rebelling against the medical system is one way in order to cope. You have nervous breakdowns from all the needles, bood testing and diets .This book both sympathises and also tries, desperately to understand your sorrows and rebellions. It is like someone who is actually listening and is not dictating or lecturing you about ther disease. It is a sound, helpful read for those diabetics that are simply fed up with the whole thing and want a life.It can help you have choices and give you a life.As a type 2 diabetic for 15 years, I can recommend it.

What a book.

Exc book really helpful. Only downside is it could be written for English diabetics as some Americanisms difficult to compare or translate. This book tells about the crap days of diabetes & how to get back on track. Ginger also gives advice on living each day as it comes. Useful tips on which help when guilt sets in
