Not bad, but still needs improving
I know that I am reviewing a first generation swingbyte and there is already a second version out, but here goes:Overall, I am happy with the purchase. It does what it advertises - reads my swing, tells me (to certain degree) if what I am doing is good or can be improved. However, a few cons:1 - It is prone to slipping out of position and needs to be constantly checked if it is properly aligned (I believe they have fixed that in the newest version of the tool).2 - The numbers seem a bit odd sometimes, and lack consistence.Other than that, I think still think is is a good tool to have to improve your game.

This device is flawed
I bought the Swingbyte about 1 month ago and initially it worked perfectly for two days but then stopped sending data to either the iPad or iPhone app. The problem occurred during the second day at the range while taking full swings with a 7 iron. After two or three swings the device has to be re-positioned on the shaft and occasionally re-calibrated. Although, this scenario is inconvenient, it is not a deal breaker. What is a deal breaker is that the device stops working following multiple re-positionings. I am a 11 handicap golfer with 80+ mph iron and 90+ mph driver club head speeds - which are certainly not excessive. When I sought help from Swingbyte (the customer service was excellent) and after trying their suggested remedies, the device still failed to send swing data and finally stopped connecting to either the iPad or iPhone app altogether. Swingbyte sent me a new device which worked perfectly for two days but again stopped sending data on the second day of full swing use. I suspect they have a design flaw which manifests when you swing down on the ball (as you should) and take a divot following ball contact. When such a swing is made it almost always results in having to re-position the device on the shaft suggesting that continued vibration finally causes it to fail. Perhaps I just got two bad devices but this is problematic in its own right. The idea behind the Swingbyte is excellent and I really tried to make it work; however, it simply is not durable enough to be reliable. Perhaps Swingbyte will ultimately redesign or otherwise fix their product but until then beware of buying this swing aid.

Coolest gadget I have ever owned!
This thing is unbelievable! I can't believe it works so well. I was half expecting this thing not to work since most of my training aids have disappointed me. I have always wanted to buy a simulator but at $70000 that was out of the question. I rented a 2 hour session on an HD simulator to compare the swingbyte to the simulator stats and it was spot on. The swingbyte not only gave me accurate numbers but showed me the arcs of my backswing and forward swing which was even more helpful than the numerical data. To be honest I am shocked this technology is here. I didn't think this kind of accuracy was possible for another 10 or 20 years down the road. It is small and so simple to use. It immediately synced with my ipad and I was hitting balls within 5 minutes after opening the box. I own countless golf training aids that are now collecting dust in the attic but this thing is now my number one training aid. My Dad and bro are definitely getting one for Christmas. This is by far my best purchase ever.

nice tool
I've used the swingbyte for a few weeks now and would like to say it's is very accurate with respect to most of the data it records. This tool can be very beneficial when using it on the course during a practice round or at the range. I use it with both my android tablet and phone. When I hit a bad shot you get instant feedback, you can see the details within your swing and pick up on what deviations cause that bad shot. It's so much easier than using a camera and V1 plus it's instantly available. You can hit one shot after another. It records every swing that you make an impact with the ground/ball. It's decent at giving club face information at impact, it's only as accurate as your job of lining up the tool on the club. I don't really trust it's algorithm for predicting ball flight (hook, draw, straight, fade, slice) based on benchmarking its predictions (from what I can tell it uses swing path and face angle to predict). However, I'm not too concerned this as I am using it more for swing shape analysis. It's decent with predicting swing speed. Probably a little error with shaft flex depending on how you swing.

Good
I got this training device to helps me to improve my game, but I think it's not like the way I though. There are a lot of numbers and data but there's no map of what should I handle all this data. I can see some graphics but the numbers are only numbers. No help at all.

Doesn't Work For Putting
I bought the swingbyte to aid me in practicing putting indoors after the kids have gone to sleep. I followed all the setup instructions to the letter, but the swingbyte would never register a swing. For hours I tried everything imaginable, but to no avail. Finally I sent an email to the company, and they basically said "oh yeah, putting doesn't work anymore, we're working on it". The best they could give me is that it might work for android after several weeks, and that they would start trying to figure it out on iOS after that. Seriously?!? It seems like this is a pretty major bug and that they would try to get right on fixing it! So, now I have a really expensive, but completely worthless dongle (I have low ceilings, so the putter is the only club I can swing in the house). So, I do not have any real data to work with, but I can tell that in general the app is also poorly put together. It is always complaining that the device is not paired, even though the paired indicator light is on (and the tablet or phone say that it is paired). I have to turn the device on and off a couple times until that error message goes away. Trying to adjust my clubs on their website leads to a dozen error messages along the lines of "unexpected error occurred, we have recorded this."
