Windmills of the Gods
We thoroughly enjoyed this movie - well acted and a great story. I ordered three of Sidney Sheldon's movies and this was the only one in which both of the discs worked without any mishaps. In both of the other two (obtained one with this order and the other from another seller through amazon.co.uk) the first disc did not work properly and we missed part of the story. As these movies were made many years ago and the books are unavailable in my local library we are trying to find a library in our surrounding areas that has the books so we can find out the parts of the movies that we could not get to work. The Sidney Sheldon movies (of his books) are most enjoyable and at this stage only three of them are available in Australia with another coming out in a month or so. The others we have been trying to obtain through amazon and even though they are imported they are in English - you just have to get rid of the subtitles whih is easy to do. All of these movies have great actors in them and were made at a time when movies relied on good acting and great stories not like many movies today which rely on special effects, foul language and sex and quite often very average acting ability.

Windmills Of The Gods
Based on Sidney Sheldons' novel about a politcs lecturer, played by Jacquline Smith, in an Americal College who is asked to become the new U.S. ambassdor to Romania. She is intitally reluctant to accept the appointment, her husband a doctor does not want to give up his work in a hospital and when she does accept it is only because her family have been traumatised by the death of her husabnd in a mysterious car accident. She moves to Romania with her two children to take up the post of ambassador and has to overcome hostility from some of the embassy staff. She feels undermined by the character played by Robert Wagner who is her chief of staff at the embassy, but grows to trust him. Unfortunately she becomes very ill but recovers with the care of a French doctor from the French embassy, played by Christopher Cazenove, who is her love interest for a while until he is discovered to be part of a conspiracy to undermine American foreign policy in Eastern Europe in the 1980s. She finally learns why she became ill and who was repsonsible and realises that Robert Wagner is indeed her friend and protector. The political theme of the story surrounds a secret orgnaisation composed of mysterious and powerful figures from the West and East who wish to destroy any chance of political detente between the U.S. and Eastern Europe in the Cold War.This is an excellent mini-series made in the late 1980s when mini series were in their heyday. Jacqueline Smith is absolutely beautiful in this story and there is definite chemistry between her character and Robert Wagner. Women will enjoy watching Jacqueline as her clothes with a few odd mistakes are really gorgeous. Sidney Sheldon's novels always read as if they were written for the screen and this story transfers very well to the small screen. The pace of the story never lags and it is recommended viewing.
