A pleasant surprise
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this one. I really wanted Blake's story next but I found myself loving Luke and Julie more and more. Given that I read this in 3 days, I couldn't put it down.Julie is a spitfire and really quite fun to read. The mess they find themselves in felt a little fantastical but honestly, it was supremely enjoyable fiction which in this day and age is honestly the perfect escape from reality.Julie is a divorce lawyer who is drawn into a hot mess of a situation and in way over her head. She and Luke have a long history together and he gets drawn in as her perfect knight in shining armor. You'll enjoy all of Julie's sass. I found myself wanting to just hug Luke as he tries to navigate the waters of a precarious situation and handle Julie along with it. Their chemistry is explosive even as they try to fight it but their story is sweet too. Both are fighting pasts that make them a bit gun shy.

Luke and Julie
I really liked this one but there was something missing...what I'm not sure maybe it just seemed rushed or not finished. Julie is a divorce attorney and one of her clients is a judge but the judge's wife has come to her office with an ominous decree or warning. She has secrets and so does the judge and when she lets the judge know his wife visited him he is not surprised or was he but then she commits suicide or did she. Questions galore. Luke Walker, one of the Walker brothers, and Julie had an affair years before when he was still in the SEALs but there are still underlying feelings. Danger and intrigue bring them together but chemistry keeps them going. This was great and I am looking forward to more in this series.

Very smexy
DANGEROUS SECRETS (Tall Dark and Deadly #2) by Lisa Renee JonesDANGEROUS SECRETS is the second storyline (April 2012 release) in Lisa Renee Jones contemporary romance Tall, Dark and Deadly series featuring the brooding and smexy Walker brothers of Walker Security. This is Luke's story.Julie Harrison is a Chicago divorce attorney with big name clients. Hoping to make a quick flight to her friend's wedding, Julie would suddenly be confronted with her client's soon to be ex-wife and a secret that could get them both killed. With her flight cancelled, Julie checked into the recommended hotel only to find Luke Walker-former Navy SEAL and lover in the room next to hers. What a coincidence since her best friend Lauren was marrying Luke's brother Royce.Luke Walker still had it bad for Julie. Finding her at the airport was a stroke of luck but hearing her story that a client's secrets could have potential ramifications not just for her client but her life, had Luke calling in Walker Security to track down some leads. But a phone call to Julie would find that her client's wife was dead and a surprise would await Julie at the funeral. Her client's wife had a sister and she wanted to hire Walker Securities to investigate the death.Luke and Julie had never really said goodbye. Before his last deployment, he and Julie were an item, but on his return from active duty, he found himself trying to hold things together with his brother Blake who had recently lost his fiancé to an armed attack. Finding Julie again, was a sign that they were meant to be. And he was going to get her back. But every step of the way he seemed to do something wrong.ATF, DEA and an assortment of government departments were all involved in the investigation. A money laundering Cartel involved in stolen art could be linked directly back to Julie's client and she and Luke had become a bigger target with the information that had been handed directly to them. Blackmail, betrayal and bribery were all part of the game, and too soon, the faces of the players would become all too familiar.DANGEROUS SECRETS is another fast paced and fascinating storyline from Lisa Renee Jones. There are some interesting twists and although there is a HEA, there is still some room for another storyline.see all of my reviews at : thereadingcafe.com

Not As Good As I Have Come To Expect From Lisa Renee Jones
This book took me a little long to get through and I can only guess it's because I couldn't connect to the characters. The thing is I really liked the first book in this series and in `Hot Secrets' I liked Julie's character and I was curious about Luke.I felt like Julie was way too confused and all over the place. I like Luke well enough, but he felt a little flat for me, there wasn't a lot of depth to this super sexy, super strong SEAL, I wanted more out of him.The formatting was an issue on the Kindle addition as well as a few editing issues, I understand editing issues happen they happen in my own books, but I just want others to be aware of them; there were missing page breaks, a lot of end quotations at the beginning of the sentence, randomly placed backslashes, this is not only a formatting issue but and editing issue, there were numerous sentence that had words missing--a and the are important.I get what a lot of others were saying about the ending it felt like it kind of just hit you in the face, all of a sudden Julie was at the subway, then Royce was there too with no explanation.I wasn't really sure what Gina's character brought to the story she felt a bit like a page filler, the story would have progressed just fine without her, then there was the man in elevator . . . who was he? Did I miss his significance? Finally and this is probably why I rated this book as I did was that someone should have caught the mistakes that were made with some of the character names; at one point someone refers to Julie as Ms. Moore her last name is Harrison. Then there's Blake's murdered fiancée first she's referred to as Sara then Rebecca these are mistakes that drive me crazy, know your characters.I will say that I am still a fan of Lisa Renee Jones and I will absolutely read Blake's story as he's the one brother I've been truly curious about since `Hot Secrets'

Loved it
This second instalment of "Tall, Dark and Deadly" takes us on Luke Walker's dangerous journey.Luke runs the Walker Security alongside his brothers, Jake and Royce, after giving up being a SEAL. The reason for his return is not what everyone has been led to believe. The Walker Brothers have a tight family unit with honourable principles.Julie is a Divorce Lawyer. She hasn't had much of a family life and her best friend, Lauren is the only family that she has.Luke and Julie had a no commitment relationship in the past and parted ways on the premise that it was casual and temporary. She doesn’t believe in long term relationships due to her own experience with her mother, and those of her clients who go through complicated and difficult divorces. Now that Royce and Lauren are getting married, she can’t really avoid meeting Luke.Their first reunion at the airport brings back feelings that Julie would rather forget. She likes to fend for herself. That's what she has always done. When she finds herself in the middle of a dangerous situation involving corruption and the Cartel, Luke can't bear thinking of the worse case scenario. With drug trafficking, money laundering and forgeries, danger is always imminent. He willingly gets involved, even if it means putting his own life on the line. He is also determined to break down the emotional barrier that Julie uses as an escape from getting involved.I like Julie's caring side but her stubbornness can be irritating. When it comes to her commitment phobia, she refuses to be reasonable. Luke is not easily deterred and fights tooth and nails to get what he wants. The chemistry between them is sizzling hot and this treacherous position that they are in, only reaffirms their feelings. Besides close family and friends, it's hard to know who to trust. Traitors and danger are everywhere. It's a well woven plot which pulled me right in.I was completely immersed in this fast, furious, sexy and romantic journey. I now look forward to reading Blake's story.

This is a very toned-down LRJ, but sort of decent nevertheless...just don't count on the suspense or baddies.
I'm used to LRJ from her Ellora's Cave days, and this is one of her tamer, though still sensual, romantic suspense tales. It's not a bad tale, but it drags a bit, before all is revealed - a little too quickly - around 87% of the tale, at which point everything got wrapped up a bit too conveniently and easily. Kind of like baddies who roll over and die...It isn't a bad read, it has danger, baddies, red herrings, more than one person who's more (or should that be less) than they should be, but the romance felt a bit kind of 'because circumstances put them together' rather than because of a true attraction between them. Yes, they had a bit of a past that broke down some barriers and made them get together quickly and without too much 'will they?/won't they?, but the romance was a bit lukewarm and more suited to a romance of 10 years or so ago, not of a contemp rom susp.Overall, it's readable, but not her best. I suppose for a freebie, I shouldn't complain too much, but I do wonder why she offers quite so many freebies these days...

Lots of mystery, not so much romance
The two main characters Julie and Luke have a past together, which is given as the explanation for their attraction to each other, While I might be interested to know what former 'conquests' are doing in their lives, I doubt very much that I would want to revisit the experience. The thriller and mystery elements of the novel are well composed and though I had worked out who was the real enemy, it was still an enjoyable read. Though I would agree with another reviewer that the pace changes frequently throughout the book.Beware though, Miss Jones finishes with the reader in the dark about some of the characters, so although this is an entire novel, not all questions are answered, leaving the reader feeling obliged to go on to the third book to satisfy curiosity.
