Good ol' abuse guitar!
I bought this because I wanted something I could literally throw into the trunk of my car and take anywhere. This guitar does that excellently. In fact, for 40 bucks I would feel confident taking this thing kayaking. I might even try skydiving with this thing for 40 dollars. Can this guitar hold a tune? Not really.Does the guitar sound good? Not really.Does the guitar look good? Not really.Does the guitar smell like paint? Absolutely! While the guitar strings aren't evenly separated, the 11th fret is dotted instead of the 12th, the guides for the strings are off center, and the circle sticker around the cutout isn't close to centered the guitar will play notes you make for a short while before needing retuning. For 40 USD there really isn't much more you could ask for out of this product.

A Bargain, Especially if You Set It Up
Firstly, I love this little guitar but you need to remember it is a backpacker's guitar. No booming bass or loud volume. It is what it is. It fits into tiny spaces and seems fairly hardy. Its not designed as a beginner's guitar, especially as you can't rest it on your leg to play. You need to use the strap.Years ago I had Martin Backpacker and this is equally useful at a tenth of the price.Secondly, I did a few essential things to make it more playable;I shaved about 3mm off the bottom of the bridge to lower the action,I filed the slots in the nut down quite a bit to seat the strings lower,I polished the frets (some bits of painters tape to protect the fretboard, and a little 80 grit sandpaper on my fingertip to get rid of the scratches and laquer?!)and finally I placed the center of the bridge 23" from the nut and marked the spot with a Sharpie. It is now in tune all the way up the neck. All were easy jobs.I guess that all adds up to what's called a "set-up" and you would do it on almost any guitar you bought. In this case, it makes a huge difference to the playability. Its now a really fun and useful guitar. As with the $220 Martin, there is no truss rod but the neck is pretty straight so its not a problem. The paintwork looks like it was done by a very angry person with a lot of spray cans to get rid of. At a later date I may sand it back and refinish it just for fun. With a few basic tools and an hour of spare time, you can turn this into something very good.

buy it if.........
you are in a budget and want to work on it, otherwise this is not for you.I read all the reviews before buying this, all of them really bad, but there is one of someone saying what he did in order to make this guitar sound decent to good.first I wanted a traveler guitar this shape but not willing to pay $240 for the Martin one, so I took a chance to buy this one and also did some work on it.upon arrival this guitar is not playable, what I did then is :- file the head string nut to lower the strings.-file the bridge to lower the strings.-remove the string holder that came with the guitar because the string width was not correct and install the one you see in the picture in order to give the right width to the strings.-measured the length from nut to 12th fret and then move the bridge to the same length down for holding the tuning and playability.-install one more fretnow is a total different story the guitar is playable and stays in tune, however consider that this is literally a traveler guitar that you may use when literally travel to the mountain or a spot just for your ear satisfaction and because you can not live without a guitar.this guitar is not for gigging but for jamming.if you put a pill pick up you can make it sound in an battery operated amp.hope this is useful before buying.

Best $35 Guitar Available
I was a bit concerned about this instrument after noticing the less-than-stellar overall review. however while reading individual reviews I determined that most negative reviews seemed the result of mismatched expectations. I rate it highly because it meets my expectations. I primarily wanted a guitar that I could take on road trips. I hadn't played guitar for 40 years before starting lessons about two years ago. I already had a good quality, full size 12-string instrument. I removed the redundant strings so I could relearn the basics. now I'm at the point of restringing the 12-string. I also wanted a guitar that I could take on road trips so as not to risk damaging the large, half-century old (HS graduation present) high quality guitar. I didn't expect high quality sound from a $35 instrument, but it's actually better than I expected. Nor was I expecting high quality finish or materials, yet both exceeded my expectations.

Great value, but do NOT buy this guitar unless you're willing to work on it
This is a fantastic guitar for the price. It's super small so it's great for travel. It needs a serious setup. You cannot buy this and just play. I had to file down the nut. I had to file down the bridge. I had to file down a few of the frets. I had to adjust the bridge to the right spot. This is all stuff you would want done for any guitar, but most you buy are going to be at least close to being playable when you buy. This guitar is not.BUT, if you know what to do or want to pay someone $40 to setup your $40 guitar, this is a fantastic guitar. It's small. It travels very well. It's way less expensive than other travel guitars. And if you do it right, it has a kind of banjo-ish sound that I kinda dig. This is the kind of guitar you want to take to the park, on the train, in a backpack while you ride your bike, or wherever else that you might not otherwise take a guitar with you. I am super happy with my purchase because I was able to work on it to set it up properly. Now it stays in tune and the intonation is good.

Bet on the Black
The product photos showed bad paint and dents. Seemed honest enuff. I bought one finished black, and it's unblemished front and back. Don't know if the color versions are the blotchy ones, but this one had a very smooth laquer job, and had only one tiny white scratch on the edge of the third fret that sharpied-out easily.Doing a setup and stringing w/ some cheap Ernie Ball lights, and will be ready to go.I'm also buying a couple more to make art-guitars.For $40, this is a no-brainer.
