Nice chair, but production shortcuts make assembly tougher than it needs to be
Three stars. Understand I do like the two I received and assembled. But I have a few comments.Claims made for the wood species: ash and/or hickory. Perhaps. Spindles and runners I think probably are. Arm rests had a cast under the finish commmonly associated with a wood we called, when I lived in Iowa, (ahem) "piss elm". It definitely drilled and took screws like a softwood, whatever it is.Assembly: the claim is "One thing that did not change though was the commitment to the time tested method of product manufacturing that has allowed Dixie Seating to set itself apart from lower quality production methods." And, "Construction methods use no glue." Yet, each kit ships with a small tube of white glue. And the assembly instructions most certainly include guidance on where and when to use it. So here's the thing: mortise and tenon joinery is some of the strongest wood joinery known to man and should be able to be accomplished with glue only, without the need for screws or nails at all. Further, any real woodworker knows that if you're going to pre-finish parts prior to final assembly, and if your assembly depends on mortise-and-tenon joinery -- as this chair does -- one thing you do NOT want to do is to get finish into the mortises (in this piece the mortises are just holes) or on the tenons (they're all round tenons on this chair) because the glue joints are supposed to be wood-to-wood joints, or else they will fail. Glue-to paint joints are particularly weak. But apparently the craftsmen who used to know how to mask off tenons and plug mortises in order to keep them bare wood when pre-finishing parts are now long gone from North Carolina. So what you must do if you want your chair's glue joints to hold up is: sand off the finish down to bare wood wherever the instructions call for glue to be used. But don't get too aggressive with sanding, or the joint will be too loose and then will still be a bad glue joint that will eventually fail when the screws strip out. If only these guys had known about masking tape, and had used it ahead of their spray booth...If you're going to park this chair outdoors, I recommend losing the supplied white glue and substituting Titebond III, a waterproof glue designed for outdoor wood assemblies.I also recommend doing a complete dry assembly before you ever apply any glue. In particular, this will allow you to determine how much finish to remove from the ends of the 4 spindles that are glued up in step 1. You won't actually discover this for the upper spindles until you try to fit the arm rests. Trust me on this.

Lovely looking
Lovely looking and overall pleased. I loved the aesthetics of this rocker. Pretty easy to put together - but if you are not a fan of assembly items I would recommend just buying a rocker already assembled. Also, this is a large sized rocker that easily holds a full size adult. But if you are an oversized adult I am not sure it would be a good fit. My dad is a pretty large man. My parents have thicker wood rockers on their porch. When he sat on mine - I was a little worried about this rocker under him. But overall, very pleased and was what I expected

Ok, a little flimsy
This chair looks nice, but was a little challenging to assemble. We originally got it for the living room, but my husband is afraid to sit in it and break it (6'2", 260 lbs). I do sit in it, with no problem (I'm 5'10", 145 lbs), and it is fine without a cushion, but we keep it in the guest room

Two have held up fine, but the arm of the third pulled out ...
I bought three for the porch of our house, which we rent out during the summer. Two have held up fine, but the arm of the third pulled out of its socket, dragging the screw through the wood of the upright. One repair so far, also failed. Trying again now, but wish we'd bought something sturdier.

The glue STINKS
This chair would be wonderful if the glue weren't so awful. It's been more than two months since we assembled the things and the glue smell is still so strong that I can't sit in it. Do yourself a favor and use a different glue.

Junk
This was a big disappointment. We bought this as a gift, for "grandpa" who wanted a rocking chair for his porch. It falls apart, is cheaply made, needs constant repair and shims, plus extra screws... to hold it together. I'm embarrassed, and wished we'd never bought it.

These Chairs are Cheap Crap!!
These Chairs are Cheap Crap!!! Do Not Waste Your Money!!!! My husband put these together and before he even finished asked me why I got them. He was very disappointed in the quality of the materials and the construction of the chairs. After he got them together and we waited for the worthless glue to dry one of them cracked the first time he sat in it. Then the arm came off!!! My husband is an Engineer, so I pretty sure he can put a chair together. Oh and I tried to return it and they said NO. Totally ridiculous and very disappointed!!! I'm rather sure this company knows that these chair are worthless!

Assembly is annoying and the glue doesn't work...
I'm pretty disappointed in these chairs. We purchased two of them for our porch. They are very pretty but the wood glue that came with these for assembly DOES NOT WORK. It is terrible and the pieces came apart just a few days later. We are going to buy different glue...
