After reading a few other reviews on this item, its pretty obvious to me that some people just dont know what they are doing when it comes to using any lure retriever, let alone this one. Here are a few points that I dont think people are understanding.A) This is just for the weighted unit. No string, no string holder, nothing else. Nowhere in the listing does it ever state that any of that stuff comes with it.B) This isnt a powder-coated item, the paint is going to come off. Who cares. If your lure is stuck any deeper than 5 ft, your not going to be able to see it anyways underwater. The color doesn't affect how well of a job that it does getting your lure back.C) Go on youtube and watch some videos on how a lure retriever works. The video doesn't have to be of this exact unit. They all work the same. Based off of some of the other reviews, some of you need this. This unit ever affects my pole because it never touches the pole. It rides your line down to the lure, and then once its free, you pull the weighted retreiver back up with whatever line you have tied to it.

It has retrieved so many lures for me. It has paid for itself many times over. It has nice heavy weight to it. Sometimes you have to get creative when using it from the bank but still worth it.

Snagged my lure under a bridge. Lure popped out after several tugs. No damage to hook.

Has the weight to do what it’s suppose to, but have not tried it. As for holding it, be sure to grind the sharp edges. I sliced my finger while looking it over. 😂

It works well. Takes a few minutes to get the hang of it but it has already paid for itself multiple times. One complaint. I received the new black model and they painted the rings where the line goes through. On the original orange model, the "rings" were bare, smooth metal not rough paint. I took the paint off the rings using lacquer thinner. Problem solved.

It doesn't take many retrievals to pay for itself . I also keep some light short chains handy to put on it if its in a particularly hard snaggle of brush so that it grabs onto the hooks themselves rather than just bumping it loose . Just use shower curtain snap rings if needing the chains or even zip ties . You won't need to do this very often but simple on and off hack . I use 150 lb para chord I think they call it on mine for the haul line .

So i'm not sure if this is a knock off product or not. it has similar features to the image advertised. Firstly it's orange, which is a slight disappointment because i prefer the colour red. The main issue i have with the product is that the paint seems to chip off really easily. Not only is this frustrating because the paint chips get everywhere, but they're also fairly difficult to clean up. The inserts where the rods go into the weight also have a frayed point near the one end. I'm concerned that using this could potentially end up getting snagged or even cutting/fraying the line because of the sharp edge. Another reason this is concerning is because it's a led lure, i'm not sure where this is manufactured, but if the lead isn't well sealed this could potentially be a health hazard, especially if one's fishing with kids and they end up touching or playing with the lure receiver. I've yet to try the retriever to test it's efficacy, i'll post an updated review after i give it a few tries. I just feel that one should be aware of the quality issues this product comes with.
