Outstanding gift for a griller!!
I always have a hard time with my brother's birthday gift. But he does love to grill and he does love spicy food, and the good reviews combined with the uniqueness of this item made me go for it. It was a hit!! Since he and my sister in law are trying to eat a bit healthier I combined this with some lower fat cream cheese, Mex cheese shreds and Jimmy Dean TURKEY sausage crumbles in a gift bag. You HAVE to get the Jimmy Dean - it is the only turkey sausage that tastes great that I have found. They loved it!!! He said the corer worked like a charm - be sure and wear surgical gloves too when seeding - so the peppers were mild and flavorful for those with less heat tolerance. He also added some cajun seasoning. They're going to the beach in a few weeks with other couples and everyone is to bring a dish to cook and he's already planning his popper recipes!! He also liked the trick of sticking a toothpick through smaller peppers to keep them from going through the holes. Well made item, too, and not so large that it takes up a lot of room on the grill. I'll be ordering more of them I'm sure.

Exceeded Expectations
I bought this item as a Christmas gift for my sweetie after reading all of the reviews on it (very helpful). Last year we discovered grilled jalapenos wrapped in bacon and have been trying to improve the process ever since. We used to cut them in half, remove the seeds and membranes, fill the sides with cream cheese, put them back together and wrap them in bacon, secured with toothpicks. Then we would grill them on foil. The process was cumbersome and frought with danger as several grease fires ensued!Last night we tried this cooker for the first time and were thoroughly happy with it! The corer worked very well, eliminating a lot of exposure to the toxic jalapeno juice and simplifying the cleaning. It sometimes didn't get deep into the point of the jalapeno and that produced some hot-hot-hot moments, but they ARE jalapenos, so what do you expect :)As for the cooker, we were a little unsure how the bacon would cook without direct heat as it would now be suspended on the pepper and not lying on the foil. We opted to wrap half pieces of bacon on the tops and secure with toothpicks. We tried to leave the grill closed and let the heat do the work, only checking the peppers a few times in about 30 minutes. To our surprise, the bacon cooked just fine and the peppers were excellent! Next time we'll go for the whole shebang with full strips of bacon and leaving the grill closed for the 30 minutes. I have no doubt that they'll be perfect :)

Works Well in the Oven
I use this rack to cook jalapeno poppers in the oven. It's not perfect, but I like it.Pros:- Stainless steel is easy to clean and is thick enough for use at oven temperatures without warping.- The coring tool works really well on larger jalapenos. However, it's too big for smaller jalapenos (the size I usually harvest in my garden). To fix this problem, I bent the end of the coring tool further inward so that it would fit into smaller jalapenos.Cons:- There is no bottom. That's good if using it on a BBQ grill, but not so good if using it in an oven. When I use it in the oven, I place it on a cookie sheet to catch dripping cheese or bacon grease.- The holes are usually going to be too large or too small because of the wide size difference among jalapenos. I use toothpicks through the jalapenos to hold smaller ones. On larger jalapenos, I can usually push them far enough into the hole to hold them. If the jalapenos are tall enough, I can insert them through the holes and let the bottoms rest on the cookie sheet I put underneath it.It's not perfect, but it's sufficient. Until someone invents a rack with auto-adjusting holes, this'll do nicely.

The best popper cooker out there
It doesn't look like much, but it is heavy and really well-made. I looked at some fancier ones but I am so glad that I chose this simple, streamline design. It is very easy to clean the melted cheese off of this rack. I usually use it on the grill but have used it in the oven, too. Great results either way. If you need an unusual gift idea, try getting one of these ( it comes with the jalapeno corer, also very nicely made ) and putting a jalapeno recipe cookbook, a pair of small tongs for picking up the hot poppers, a pair of safely glasses ( one drop of jalapeno juice in the eye can ruin a whole weekend and believe me, once you start making these, you'll be making more and more of them every time !), I attractively arrange everything in a container and fill in the spaces with a couple dozen jalapenos, attach a card, and I'm done !!! I made this up for a Christmas gift, now everyone on my list wants one.

Good Concept, But Holes Are Too Close Together
I bought this instead of a 12- 18- or 24-hole model so that I could smoke 36 jalapeno poppers at a time. No such luck. Unless you're using really small jalapenos, you have to stagger them (holes 1, 3, 5 on the first row, 2, 4, 6 on the second row, and so on) and can only use 18 holes. When I've cooked 20-24, I set aside the smallest ones and put them in adjacent holes. They were touching each other, and the bacon didn't crisp up as good. So even that didn't work well. I'll stick to smoking no more than 18 at a time in the future, which is disappointing because we all love poppers and we would like more than 18.

A BBQers Staple
If you cook jalapenos you have to buy this. If you have had dreams about cooking jalapenos you need to have one of these. The size is great for normal sized jalapenos, but if you use bigger, it can still accommodate the increased space between. On top of it you get the corer too! How did I live without a jalapeno corer for this long?
