Walking Disaster: A Novel (Beautiful Disaster Series)

Nothing Compares to the Amazingness in Travis Maddox's Head
5+++ "Never...stop fighting for what you want" Kisses! How to sum up my feelings right now...There are some book boyfriends you can never forget...ever. They're untouchable. They stick with you, ingrained in your brain forever. Not that you love any of the new book boyfriends less, but there is just a certain piece of your heart that is "theirs"...forever. Travis "Mad Dog" Maddox is one of those book boyfriends. "I decided a long time ago I would feed on the vultures until a dove came along. A pigeon. The kind of soul that didn't impede on anyone just walked around worrying about its own business, trying to get through life without puling everyone else down with its own needs and selfish habits. Brave. A communicator. Intelligent. Beautiful. Soft-spoken. A creature that mates for life. Unattainable until she has a reason to trust you."Nothing can prepare you for the awesomeness that is being inside Travis Maddox's head. Nothing. It's better than you could ever imagine. Knowing his thoughts, his feelings, his reactions to certain events...It. Means. So. Much. More. I knew he loved Abby in Beautiful Disaster - there was no doubt in my mind, but getting to see it from his eyes, feel it from his heart....OMG, words fail me. "After spending sixty seconds in the pigeon's presence, I discerned two things: she didn't talk much, and when she did she was kind of a b****. But I don't know...I kind of dug that about her. She put on a front to keep a******* like me away, but that made me even more determined."You can't read Walking Disaster without reading Beautiful Disaster first, it just wouldn't make sense - but that's okay...it's your lucky day, cause you get double the Travis love. Some might say that's over doing it - to them I say, excuse me? Did we read the same book...because "there is too much Travis Maddox" should never come out of anyone's mouth. Ever. I'm sorry, I was like a kid in a candy store with this book. "It bothered me that she might think I was a piece of s***, but it bothered me more that I cared."So if you've read BD, you know the story thru Abby's eyes. You would think there wouldn't be any surprises, you know what's coming. HA! Fooled you. Was it a little redundant - sure. You're reading the same events you've already read once...but it's through his eyes. It changed everything for me. I didn't mind that it was the same story, I felt the change in the POV justified the book 100%. I loved being in his brain. It really shed a lot of light on the story for me. "She didn't hate me. She just wanted to hate me. I was way ahead of her. If she wanted to play, I could play."I have to be honest, I was not expecting the prologue...at all. I was bawling by the second line - it just absolutely gutted me. You get a glimpse at why Travis is the way he is, his background with his mom, dad and brothers - it rips your heart out SO bad, but it's worth it. "First, it's okay to be sad. It's okay to feel things. Remember that. Second, be a kid for as long as you can. Play games, Travis. Be silly...and you and your brothers take care of each other, and your father. Even when you grow up and move away, it's important to come home. Okay?...One of these days you're going to fall in love, son. Don't settle for just anyone. Choose the girl that doesn't come easy; the one you have to fight for, and then never stop fighting. Never...stop fighting for what you want. And never...forget that Mommy loves you. Even if you can't see me." A tear fell down her cheek. "I will always love you."Done. Gutted. Tears everywhere. Couldn't stop crying. For anyone who has ever lost a parent - let alone lost a parent when they were at a young age - I can't even imagine. The emotions that were flowing through the first seven clicks on my kindle just bled through my heart and fueled me on to want to know Travis that much more. That one line "Never...stop fighting for what you want." - hello? Define Travis Maddox much? "It sucks that I finally found the girl worth having and she's too good for me."What else did I love...I loved the fight with America and Shepley - FINALLY getting to understand what the fight was all about. I loved the poker game with his brothers and dad. I love seeing more of his brothers and dad - all that male bonding stuff, it's just so freaking heartwarming. And as much as it killed me, hearing his thoughts whenever she left him (every time she left him unfortunately) - knowing his pain, his sadness, but still his determination. I think the part I loved to hate for WD is the same for BD - the scene at his dad's house over Thanksgiving. When she is ready to give in and he's finally letting her go. Breaks my heart every time."I shook my head, stunned. If there was anything else I could do to keep her from thinking that, I didn't know what it was. She was special to me from the second I laid eyes on her, and I tried to let her know every chance I got. How else could I get that across to her? How much different from everyone else could I treat her?"It hurts to know this is `the end' of Travis and Abby. I'm just as happy, if not more so, with the way WD ended, as I was in BD. Probably more on the more happy side because you get a lot from the epilogue. It through me at first and I had to re-read the beginning because it's a jump - she slowly starts feeding you information and you begin to piece together what is going on, but it is a `Wait, what's going on here??' kind of moment. But even with that, it was still perfect. Insanely perfect. :-)I am thrilled to death about the upcoming books for the other Maddox brothers. No...more than thrilled, elated and excited beyond all rational thought. She gives you just enough of a taste in WD to make you really want to know more. Especially Trent and Thomas...ooooh boy, those two are going to be as equally entertaining as Travis was, I can feel it. I cannot recommend this book enough, and if you are a self-respecting, romance-loving, bad boy craving girl who cannot get enough of alpha male's with tattoo's, motorcycles and some of the most quotable lines I have ever read - stop now and read anything that is related to Travis Maddox. God Bless Jamie McGuire's Brain!

This Is One Ride You Don't Want to Miss!!!
Walking Disaster, for the most part is the same story as Beautiful Disaster, just told through Travis' point of view, instead of Abby's point of view this time. One of the reasons why I enjoyed reading Travis' point of view was because a few of the gaps were filled in for me in the story. We got to see a small glimpse into what Travis' mother was like, how much she loved Trav, how close he was to his mom, and how she really was the glue that held their family together. The beginning of the story had me an emotional mess. I was crying, and my heart just broke for what the whole family had to go through with the loss of their mother/wife. After her passing, the whole family was lost, in so much pain, and had trouble moving forward in their lives. So just that little glimpse made me see how the family was before, and then after her passing, which we didn't get to see in Beautiful Disaster. Also, I got to see a lot more of Travis' brothers, Thomas (the eldest), Trenton (closest to Travis), the twins, Taylor, and Tyler, and Travis' father, Jim. It was one thing to hear about how close they were in Beautiful Disaster, but a whole new take to get to see how close Travis was to his brothers', and father. Trent was my favorite brother. He was always there for Travis, when Travis needed him most. Trent would call to check-up on Travis, would take him to the bar for drinks as a source of distraction, was a good listener, was the only one who could force Travis to leave the house when he was in a deep depression, and would drive Travis home when he was drunk. We also got to meet the girl that Trent was interested in, for 2 small scenes, and I'm really looking forward to reading Trent's story next. Thomas, was the serious, and overprotective older brother. His mother made him promise to look after his younger brothers' and father when she passed. He kept that promise, grew up too fast, and was more like a second father figure to his brothers.Another reason I enjoyed reading Walking Disaster, was because I liked getting inside Travis' head, and by being exposed to Travis' thoughts, and emotions, I was able to understand his actions more. In Beautiful Disaster, Travis appeared to have major anger issues, jealousy, and possessiveness. However, in Walking Disaster, I was able to come to the realization that Travis really was trying to control his anger, and understood a little more that the reason he would get so angry at times was because he was privy to rumors and other information that he didn't share with Abby, that would make his anger come out full-force. Also, he was insecure, desperate, and really loved Abby, but was always scared that if he did or said the wrong thing, Abby would leave him for good. Little did Abby know, but she gave Travis something back that he had lost, when his mother had died, at such a young age. Abby gave Travis a sense of belonging, loving, caring, and the feeling of "home." With Abby, he had finally found a woman worth fighting for, and he knew that his mother would have loved her, and been proud of him for keeping his promise.I enjoyed re-reading the plot, and getting to revisit one of my favorite books. The story started out at a good pace, the middle slowed down a bit and got a little tiring with so much arguing back and forth. Also, Abby irritated me more in this version of the story, because I felt like she was too hard on Travis at times, was too stubborn, and kept putting her walls up, when she should have tried to work things out with him. For being so in love with Travis, it frustrated me that she would leave him without trying to talk things through, and he always had to beg her to come back to him. America and Shep were good friends to Abby and Travis, and I enjoyed revisiting them, and their relationship with the main characters, as well as one another. However, my favorite parts to revisit were the hot, and sexy drool-worthy scenes between Abby and Travis! Talk about needing to fan yourself off to cool down! Plus, my heart got to melt all over again every time Travis would tell Abby how he felt about her, or thought about what she meant to him! There were a lot of moments that I would go "Aww, that's why I loved Beautiful Disaster!" I thought the ending was really fast-paced, and it was my favorite part of the book. Who doesn't love a Happily Ever After? After finishing Walking Disaster, I'm left satisfied with the closure that I feel from getting exposed to meeting Travis' mother, learning more about his brothers, father, and getting a more well-rounded view of Travis as a whole. I am stoked to get to read each of Travis' brothers own story, and look forward to not having to completely close the door on Travis and Abby. By the end of the story, I was able to see the huge character growth that both Travis and Abby made individually, and in their relationship. The ending was bittersweet for me, as I had to say goodbye for now to Travis and Abby, because at least I got to see how everything ended, and can hope that I will see them again when I read all of the Maddox brothers' stories. Yes, I said when, not if, because, Thomas, Trent, Taylor, and Tyler's stories have just been officially added to my auto-buy list!I give Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire a Sizzling, Swoon-Worthy, Sexy, Sensational 5 Stars! If you want more Travis, and to see into the window of his soul, including his thoughts, emotions, and fears, read this story! If you don't mind reading the retelling of Beautiful Disaster, but through Travis' point of view, and therefore, containing all of Travis' intensity, emotion, and way of life, this is a great read that will have you escaping back into Travis and Abby's roller-coaster relationship, full of constant ups, downs, twists, and turns! Walking Disaster is one ride you don't want to miss! For more book reviews, visit A Bookish Escape!

Do not hesitate
The first book didn’t do it for me, it just missed something! I stumbled over this. Now I know what was missing. I like both POV. I nearly didn’t read this! I was in a huge book hangover. There was so much more world building and the characters became so real….. I’m off to the next book.

OMG OMG OMG I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!
**A copy was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**OMG!! WOW!Where do I begin? This novel was beyond amazing! I could not put this novel down!Walking Disaster is the second novel in the Beautiful series, and is in Travis Maddox’s POV. Many scenes feature just Travis/Travis and Shepley/or Travis and his brothers or dad[family]. And even the scenes with him and Abby are different again because you’re seeing and experiencing the story completely though his eyes. Jamie McGuire truly did a wonderful job of getting us right into Travis’ head.I loved how the author the novel started off, right at the beginning, when Travis was 3. The prologue really set up his character, it gives the reader the reasons behind what made him into the person we have come to know & love! The raw emotions were overwhelming, it really was heartbreaking, and I’m not going to lie, I cried a bit!! And for anyone who perceived Travis as arrogant, the jealous type and even a little over-the-top-crazy, I urge you to read this book, because your perspective of Travis will change. The novel gives the reader insights on Travis’ thoughts and feelings, which put logic and reason behind his all his actions. I enjoyed watching Travis trying to figure out Abby, she’s just sooo different from any girl he’s ever met, and it was interesting to see him fighting his feelings for everything that involved her from just talking to her to taking part in the ‘bet’.I found myself constantly smiling and chuckling over his thoughts. I just loved his bad boy logic. It was hilarious at times, and at other times really made my heart clench. You really get to see the complete “Travis” picture with this book – you see his hope, his pain, his anger, and his desperate love for and need for acceptance by this one girl who has completely taken over his heart. Travis is not perfect, he has many flaws, but I think that it is a huge part of why we all love him so much! There’s just something about an imperfect, flawed character trying so hard to be functional that just tugs each one of my heart strings. On one hand, yes, he undeniably has some temper issues but you see him go through a lot of growth over the course of the book, and at the same time, he’s also just a guy who just desperately, with all his heart, is truly, madly, deeply, head-over-heels in love with his girl and is trying his very best to be everything she deserves.I love how he thinks that he belongs only to her and how he feels that he can’t breathe unless he’s with Abby. There were many new scenes in the book; there was also a huge chunk in the middle that was extremely paralleled to the first novel. In an effort to not make this book to identical to Beautiful Disaster, much of the dialogue was cut and there were parts of the book where, despite my love for Travis and Abby, the story always didn’t convey that same epic feeling that the first novel did. But at the same time, it really worked for this story because otherwise, it would have been way too similar. This is why I feel this book is really a companion novel to Beautiful Disaster. It is definitely for the hard core fans of Travis and Abby, who already know their connection, are already in love with their characters, have experienced the story through Abby’s eyes and just want MORE. Because in that respect, it most certainly delivers! How rare a treat is it to get an entire “alternate POV” book?OMFG THE EPILOGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOSHH!!!!!! I don’t want to say a SINGLE word about it because I don’t want to spoil it at all for anyone but I’ll just say that it takes place several years after where Beautiful Disaster left off and it had my heart RACING!!! I never saw that ending coming but OMFGG it was FREAKING PERFECT! I LOVED IT!! Freaking loved it!! The book is worth reading for the epilogue alone. It left Travis and Abby’s story off in SUCH a wonderful place and at the same time, left me wanting to know more about the stories of the rest of the swoony Maddox brothers.I HIGHLY recommend reading this novel, but only after you’ve read Beautiful Disaster. Walking Disaster truly is the other half to Beautiful Disaster and you come away with it knowing every side of Travis and Abby’s story. -Ana @SoManyBooksSoLittleTime
